Aston Martin has confirmed its new V12 Zagato will be put into limited production following on from a successful unveiling at the Villa D’ Este Concours show. Following its debut the V12 Zagato, went on to complete in the 39th ADAC Nürburgring 24 Hour race and Aston Martin claims that there is overwhelming interest from customers for the V12 Zagato.
Based on Aston’s V12 Vantage and sporting a handcrafted aluminium and carbon fibre body, the V12 Zagato will be produced in very limited numbers. Orders are now being taken and production is expected to commence during summer 2012 at Aston Martin’s global headquarters at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
Speaking about the V12 Zagato, Aston Martin’s Chief Executive Dr. Ulrich Bez, said: “Such style, exclusivity and fastidious craftsmanship ensures it will be one of the most highly coveted models in Aston Martin’s 98-year history. A fabulous celebration of the iconic DB4GT Zagato, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the V12 Zagato is the perfect inspiration for the next 50 years of Aston Martin.”
In honour of the performance and racing heritage of previous collaborations, the first two V12 Zagatos were developed as endurance race cars from the outset and had their track debut just one week after being shown to the public at the Villa D’Este Concours. Zagato has been one busy Italian design house in recent times with new and upcoming models like its smoking hot TZ3 Stradale, and the much anticipated work it’s doing with Aston Martin.
Now, it would appear that another sexy Zagato-bodied sports car can is set to join the party. If the reports are to be believed the Perena Z-One concept is now ready for production and UK delivers will commence later this year.
The Z-One is a dead set stunner and car enthusiasts may recall it debuted back in March 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show. It was a stand out concept at the show, but has since fallen off the radar. Apparently, the custom chassis on the Z-One has been set up by Lee Noble – the man behind a variety of cottage-industry sportscars wearing names like Ultima, Ascari, Rosion, Fenix and, naturally, the Noble brand itself. The Perena Z-One will be powered by a 442-hp GM LS3 V8 and with that sort of motor, performance will be brisk.
Expect more details to be released shortly.

The Zagato design house has created plenty of beautiful machines with a wide variety of automakers over the years. But for many car fans it’s the collaboration between Zagato and Aston Martin that has created the most special automotive specimens.
The first and possibly most important, was the iconic Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To mark the event, the British automaker and the famous Italian design house have reconnected on a new project that could potentially head into limited production. Details on this latest collaboration remain scarce but the concept is set to be revealed at the forthcoming Villa D’Este Concours on May 21 to check initial customer reaction with a production model possibly following as early as next year.
For now, a teaser rendering has been released with little else except speculation that the new Aston Martin Zagato could be based on the mechanical hardware and platform of the current V8 Vantage.
Aston Martin boss, Dr. Ulrich Bez, said: “Now is the right time for a new Aston Martin Zagato and in combining our design intelligence I think we can create something fitting of the iconic DB4GT Zagato that has gone before and since established itself as one of the most famous Aston Martins of all time.” Continue reading “Aston Martin to uncover new Zagato special at Villa d’Este” »

About a month ago it was announced that Zagato was building a new TZ3 Stradale, now the Milanese design house has revealed the first photos and details of its newest creation.
Zagato’s TZ3 Stradale is an Alfa Romeo bodied sports car based on the platform and mechanical hardware of the hardcore, but out of production Dodge Viper ACR. Power comes from the top-spec Viper’s same 447kW 8.4-litre V10 engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a full race-spec suspension. The TZ3 Stradale uses an all new and all carbon fibre body with the most distinctive design feature being the classic Kamm-tail layout. While this coachbuilt Viper doesn’t actually use any mechanical pieces from Alfa Romeo, its design puts a decidedly contemporary spin on years of collaboration between Zagato and Alfa.
The TZ3 Stradale is Zagato’s second and final tribute to the 100th anniversary of Alfa Romeo (1910-2010), which started in 2009 with the presentation of the 8C Competizione-based TZ3 Corsa that took out the Villa D’Este Design Concept Award in 2010. The Zagato-designed Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa has been officially unveiled at the Villa D’Este concours last weekend and it’s pretty damn spectacular. Driven by the same V8 used in the Alfa 8C Competizion, the TZ3 is very much in keeping with its 60s-era predecessors, the TZ1 and TZ2, making use of many similar design details and the same distinctive profile. Also like the sixties vehicles, the Z3 is a full racing car, ready for the track. However, unlike its ancestors, the new machine wears aluminum bodywork stretched over a tube frame and carbon-fibre chassis. Power output hasn’t been announced, but it should be healthy and a massive increase on the cars of the Zagato cars of the 1960’s.
Zagato says the TZ3 was commissioned by a German collector named Martin Kapp as a special celebration of 100 years of racing from Scuderia Ferrari, Alfa Corse, Autodelta, and Scuderia Zagato. There’s no doubt this objective has been achieved and the TZ3 Corsa is a very special vehicle,

It seems that the upcoming Geneva Motor Show will be showing little regard for the whole global recession, as many automakers are using the Swiss show to debut exciting and expensive new vehicles and concepts.
Zagato popped up yesterday with its own surprise, the Perana Z-One. The Italian design company has partnered up with South Africa’s Perana Performance Group to build the Perana Z-One, of which 999 units will be produced.
A price hasn’t been announced yet, but it won’t be cheap, other specifications have been finalised. The Perana Z-One will be powered by a 6.2L LS3 V8 from GM producing at least 440 horsepower and a 0-100kph time for the car of less than four seconds. That icon of American mechanical engineering will be bodied in a sleek coupe shape that blends Italian flare with some sinister Shelby Cobra styling cues and a dash of Aston Martin aesthetic.
All that’s been released so far are these high-resolution renderings but more images and information will come from the Geneva Auto Show early next month.
