Kia Hamsters return to promote facelifted Soul (+video)

Kia has brought back its body bopping hamsters to push its cosmetically refreshed and mechanically upgraded 2012 Kia Soul which goes on sale in the States this month.

This time around the hip hop inspired hamsters find themselves in a dark, futuristic videogame world where the rodents turn the battle between alien robots and humanoids into a dancing frenzy. The soundtrack is provided by electro-pop group LMFAO’s hit, “Party Rock Anthem”.

“The success and popularity of the Soul continues to grow and attract new customers to the Kia brand, and with music playing an important role in our marketing efforts it is the perfect time for the hamsters to return for a third installment featuring the infectious sounds of LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’ to highlight the 2012 Soul’s new attributes,” said Michael Sprague, vice president, marketing & communications, KMA. Ken Block releases Gymkhana Four: The Hollywood Megamercial (+video)

Ken Block is back once more and this time around he’s gone bigger, longer, louder and more ridiculous than ever before. Block’s Gymkhana 4: The Hollywood Megamercial video was released on YouTube last night and comes packing a whole range of different scenes, stunts and crowd-pleasing antics.

In this latest installment the DC Shoes front man takes his hard-tuned Ford Fiesta hoon vehicle to the Universal Studios film lot in the States. This sees him with a varied background of classic movie props and a Hollywood blockbuster theme to the new clip.

Watch sharply and you’ll see props and backgrounds from flicks like Back to the Future, Jaws, Zombieland and Slumdog Millionaire. But the madness doesn’t end there, you’ll see gorillas, Bollywood dancing, a rocket-powered Segway and those nutters from Epic Meal Time. But if you’re like us and you want to see some slick driving, there’s plenty of that in the nine minute clip. Block slides his Fiesta through various obstacles, pulls donuts, crashes through stuff and leaves black tyre marks everywhere he goes.

Making of the next-gen 2012 Holden Colorado concept video

Holden’s new 2012 Colorado was recently shown for the first time in concept form at the Australian Motor Show and has already gained a load of interest. To keep up the hype, Holden has released a video showing what went into preparing the Colorado show ute for its unveiling. There’s plenty of behind the scenes stuff and footage of the show car in action.

While exact specifications for the production Colorado ute haven’t been released expect it too launch with a 2.8-litre diesel engine and be offered in various markets globally in Holden and Chevrolet forms.

Honda’s CR-Z Mugen hits the open road (+video)

Development of the Honda CR-Z Mugen concept has reached its conclusion and to celebrate Honda has released video footage of the supercharged hybrid model hitting the open road. The clip should send Honda fans into fever pitch before the models official launch at the upcoming 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK next month.

This special CR-Z was born in a joint development between Honda UK and its in-house tuning shop Mugen Euro. To get any real performance out of the car, extensive mods were done to the 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol engine including the introduction of a supercharger. Honda’s hybrid IMA system was also tweaked. The exact result in terms of output remains a mystery but is rumoured to be around the 150kW mark. Mugen has also pulled out 50kg of excess weight and made changes to the suspension, brake system, aerodynamics and lightened its unsprung weight too.

“Performance figures already look promising for this supercharged Honda CR-Z, as early tests with a prototype car based on a standard CR-Z and a mid-tune engine giving 0-60mph times around that of the Civic Type R,” Honda said in a statement.

BMW reveals classically-inspired 328 Hommage concept at Villa d’Este (+video)

BMW used last weekend’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este glitzy annual event to show off it’s new 328 Hommage concept.

The historical concept is heavily based on the Vision Connected Drive concept vehicle recently revealed at the Geneva Motor Show and has been built to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the classic 328 model. The original BMW 328 was a true success story for the German brand during the 1930s and was considered to be one of the finest-looking sports car of the era.

BMW’s 328 Hommage is a speedster body shape that features the latest in lightweight construction methods. Extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) on the concepts interior and exterior have given the concept an extremely light kerb weight of just 780kg.

The interior of the 328 Hommage is trimmed in fine leather, with high-gloss black, polished aluminum and carbon fibre pieces. For exterior design, the classic 328 design elements are obvious, there’s the vertically positioned double kidney front grille, the flat silhouette and wide-set tail lamps at the rear. Noble M600 shows its talents on airfield track (+video)

The Noble M600 supercar has spent quite some time in development but now it looks all ready to roll. After its official reveal earlier this year, the M600′s performance pedigree still remained largely unknown but with a new video that shows the supercar doing its thing on a UK airfield track, any doubt on its credentials has been lifted.

It’s a handsome beast too, unlike some of Noble’s previous offerings. With wide flanks a super low stance and huge air intakes it looks the part. Turning the wheels is a mid-mounted 4.4-litre V8 motor with a pair of turbochargers strapped on. Output figures are suitably high with 650-horsepower on tap and 604 pounds of torque. That’s certainly enough power to scream around a race track and turn badge fans all funny.

Mercedes-Benz presents history of AMG in six minute video

It was back in 1967 when AMG first formed and began boosting power on Mercedes-Benz vehicles and 44 years later the tuners products are as popular as ever. The two German companies have certainly formed a valuable partnership, and we expect even more progressive and desirable vehicles for years to come.

But before AMG looks into the future, it wants us to understand its past so Mercedes-Benz has prepared a video that provides a brief visual history lesson. It’s a clever and well worked clip that sums up AMG’s full history in just six minutes, complete with rousing music.

Lamborghini Aventadors slice through Italian countryside (+video)

Lamborghini keeps showing off footage of its latest raging bull the Aventador and you can’t blame the Italian carmaker because its an amazing machine.

This latest clip follows two Aventador models as they rapidly navigate a rolling piece of Italian country tarmac. It’s the stuff daydreams are made of and there’s no ridiculous special effects just two beautiful machines taking a spirited drive. If you could afford the asking price for the Aventador life would certainly be different.

The Aventador represents the latest in the evolution of Lamborghini’s top supercars. The 515kW carbon-fibre beast weighs in at a ultra light 1,574 kg, gifting it the kind of power-to-weight ratio typically found on a race track.

If you’re inspired by the video below and you have a disgusting amount of cash then Lamborghini will sell you one for around $370,000 USD or $459,500 in NZ money. Luckily, dreams are much cheaper. Read the rest of this entry »
