Audi 2016 A4 TDI quattro sport review

June 10th, 2016 by Darren Cottingham

Back in 2008, I tested the $251,000 Audi RS6. Of course, it was suitably epic with a 430kW 5-litre V10 motor and 650Nm of torque. Why am I even mentioning this in the same review as the humble A4? Continue reading “Audi 2016 A4 TDI quattro sport review” »

Audi 2015 RS3 Sportback review

November 12th, 2015 by Robert Barry

If ever there was a car that brought back the spirit of the burbly, noisy, character-filled five-cylinder Audi Quattro coupe from the 1980s, it is the new 2015 RS3 Sportback.

The classic Audi soundtrack of the 1-2-4-5-3 five-cylinder ignition sequence has returned in the 270kW/465Nm 2.5-litre petrol turbocharged engine found under the bonnet of the RS3. Continue reading “Audi 2015 RS3 Sportback review” »

Audi: 2015 Q7 V6 TDI Quattro S-Line

October 15th, 2015 by Robert Barry

Audi has pulled off a master stoke with the new Q7 because here is an all-new model that is some 300kg lighter in weight than its predecessor, and yet it boasts more features and more technology as standard equipment than many others in the segment.

It’s one reason the Q7 made the list of top ten finalists for the New Zealand Car of the Year Award to be announced in December. The list of standard driver assistance features is quite impressive. Continue reading “Audi: 2015 Q7 V6 TDI Quattro S-Line” »

Audi: 2015 S1 Sportback review

February 6th, 2015 by Robert Barry

The term pocket rocket has been applied to many small hot hatches, but none have been more deserving of the title than the new Audi S1 Sportback.

Here is a compact turbocharged four-cylinder 2-litre all-wheel-drive city hatchback with a six-speed manual transmission that will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Continue reading “Audi: 2015 S1 Sportback review” »

Audi: 2014 S3 Sportback quattro review

June 11th, 2014 by Darren Cottingham

audi-s3-2014-frontI was walking with a friend when a yellow Lamborghini Murcielago passed us near Westhaven Marina. She asked me why people buy cars like that in bright colours.

“Advertising,” I replied. It’s all about advertising the fact that you can spend half a mil’ on a car, and you want people to know. Plus, it looks cool. She didn’t understand the ‘looks cool’ bit. Continue reading “Audi: 2014 S3 Sportback quattro review” »

Audi Q3 2.0TDI 2012 Review

August 21st, 2012 by Darren Cottingham

Audi’s Q3 is a compact ‘posh roader’ – a small SUV designed predominantly for a life of parking outside cafes and bars. It’s Audi’s contender against the Range Rover Evoque (read review) and BMW X1 (read review). Luxury brands seem to be shrinking their offerings to make them more available to the recently washed masses, so we tore up the city in this peppy diesel SUV.

If you remember the Q7 (read review) then you’ll know it was a monstrous vehicle that filled entire country roads and is basically just Continue reading “Audi Q3 2.0TDI 2012 Review” »

Audi reveals aggro 370kW A1 Clubsport Quattro show car

June 1st, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

The annual Worthersee Festival kicks off today in Austria and sees brands of the VW group show off their latest concepts and vehicle ranges. The enthusiast’s show has got so big that the carmakers are building one-off concepts just to give brand fans something to cheer about.

This year Audi is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Quattro AWD system and has marked the occasion with a wild little concept car. Named the A1 Clubsport Quattro the vehicle will appear among its 18 vehicles on display at the festival.

The special A1 is a rally-inspired hot hatch that is built around an extensively tuned 2.5-liter turbo five with just under 500 horsepower (370kW). The five-pot is usually used in Audi’s TT-RS and the RS3 Sportback and produces 340-horsepower. With engine upgrades like tuning of the turbocharger, intercooler, induction tract and exhaust, output has been boosted to ridiculous levels.

Power is put to all four wheels through a six-speed manual and naturally, the Quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system. Audi claims the 1,390 concept car can reach 100 km/h from a standing in a scant 3.7 seconds, and push on to 200 km/h in just 10.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. November 29th, 2010 by Darren Cottingham

Audi has just released a promo video for its new Quattro concept, the vid offers insights into the birth of the retro-inspired concept car.

The popular Quattro concept was unveiled this year at the Paris auto show as a celebration of the famous rally car that introduced all-wheel-drive to the sport. The concept is in essence a shorter A5 that has been stiffened, lightened and received various updates.

Power comes from a 2.5-litre engine producing 408 hp and 480 Nm of torque. Official 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time for the concept is quoted at 3.9 seconds.

While Audi has not officially announced that it will put the Quattro concept into production, it’s received massive interest and various inside sources have confirmed that it will reach the streets in the future.
