Next week is a busy one for Subaru with the scheduled debut of two new vehicles for the Japanese carmaker.
At the Auto Shanghai 2011 show, Subaru is ready to drop the covers off its XV crossover concept car that has been teased in a single, darkened image this week.
While the silhouette image leaves some mystery, the XV is a preview of the 2012 Impreza XV, the high-riding version of the Impreza Hatchback already sold in some markets in the current generation. While Subaru are staying tight-lipped at this stage the XV will feature Subaru’s symmetrical All Wheel Drive system and likely a boxer engine. This will allow the XV genuine crossover ability.
In terms of design there’s four doors, highly styled headlamps, big concept car wheels and the overall shape of a crossover, albeit one with a raked back profile. Continue reading “Subaru gives sneak peak of XV Concept” »

The first sketch shot of the future generation 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class has just been leaked out over the web. This sketch represents the first chance to see the major design changes in Merc’s next-gen A Class, before its official debut at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show. The new A-Class is expected to be revealed next month and will likely go on sale before the end of 2011.
The 2012 Mercedes A-Class seems to borrow quite a few styling elements from the F800 concept, revealed in February 2010 (read news). The new A Class will be given a more dynamic and fluid exterior design, that will place it much closer to a hatchback body style. Initial expectations are that the upcoming A-Class will go on sale with a choice of both petrol and diesel engines. An AMG version is not expected at first, but never rule one out of showing up later especially with this type of sports styling. Toyota has just pulled the covers of the second iteration of its FT-86 Concept car at the Geneva Motor Show and claims that it is now almost identical to the upcoming production version. Toyota also took the time to release new images and a couple of video clips to get performance car fans excited about the new RWD sports car set to go on sale next year.
The FT-86 II concept comes packing several styling differences over the original concept shown at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.
In terms of exterior looks, Toyota’s designers restyled the coupe’s profile by adding a new beltline that starts from the front wheel arch with a slightly odd air vent and finishes off on the tip of the rear window. Toyota also also split the front window and removed the blacked out A-pillar finish that was on the original concept. The rear wheel arches are now more pumped out and there are new side rocker panels.
She’s not particularly sexy at the front end with a new bumper with a larger center grille and droopy eyes that drop down into a thin strip of LED daytime running lights.
At the rear the changes continue, with Toyota revamping the FT-86’s rear end with new pushed out tail lamps and a more pronounced air diffuser flanked by large exhaust pipes on either side. Continue reading “Toyota displays reworked FT-86 II concept (+video)” »

It’s been a while in the making but the next installment in the Fast and Furious film franchise is wrapped up. Named ‘Fast 5‘, this latest action/automotive movie brings together familiar faces from previous movies including Vin Diesel as ex-con Dom Toretto, Paul Walker as former cop Brian O’Conner, and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, as well as some new characters such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who plays the role of federal agent Luke Hobbs.
This time the story heads to Rio De Janeiro in Brazil where there is a generous dose of action, chase scenes and rap-video-hot girls in bikinis. The film is set to be released over in the States on April 29, 2011. Expect it to reach our cinemas shortly after.
