Mazda Mazda6 GSX 2013 Review

When you want one of the best-looking station wagons out there to have a little more pep than the base model GLX, but not the largesse of the top-of-the-range LTD, then you go for the GSX.

Mazda Mazda6 GLX Petrol 2013 Review

Has Mazda made the perfect station wagon? I liked the previous Mazda6, but I like this one more. A lot more. It’s got the kind of lines that only premium executive grand tourers used to have. It’s a large car. In fact, it’s quite a lot larger than the previous model at 4870mm long – is Mazda going after the space that the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon are struggling with?

Advanced Safety Technologies ‘i-ACTIVSENSE’ for All-New Mazda6

Mazda Motor Corporation will highlight “i-ACTIVSENSE” technologies in the all-new Mazda6 which will take centre stage at this year’s Paris Motor Show and make its Australasian debut at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show from 19th to 28th October.

i-ACTIVSENSE is a series of advanced safety technologies designed by Mazda to aid the driver in recognizing hazards, avoiding collisions and reducing the severity of accidents when they cannot be avoided.

Andrew Clearwater, Managing Director of Mazda New Zealand, says i-ACTIVSENSE brings with it a new standard in safety performance over a wide range of driving conditions.

“Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE is an exciting innovation for the company and for drivers of Mazda vehicles. Through the use of a full suite of new safety features, which make use of detection devices such as milliwave radars and cameras, Mazda is revolutionizing the driving experience. With safety one of the number one considerations for new car buyers, i-ACTIVSENSE makes the new Mazda6 and all new generation Mazda vehicles a simple choice,” says Clearwater.

At Mazda, the research and development of safety technology is based upon the company’s safety philosophy, Mazda Proactive Safety, which aims to minimize the risk of an accident by maximizing the range of conditions in which the driver can safely operate the vehicle.

Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE describes a group of advanced safety technologies, developed in line with Mazda Proactive Safety, including both active safety technologies that help the driver to recognize potential hazards, and pre-crash safety technologies which help to avert collisions or reduce their severity in situations where they cannot be avoided.

The Mazda6 with i-ACTIVSENSE will be available in New Zealand in early 2013.

Overview of i-ACTIVSENSE technologies

Control (MRCC): Judges the relative speed and distance to the car ahead, and works within a set speed range to maintain a safe following distance, thus alleviating some of the burden on the driver when driving on highways

Hazard Recognition Support and Forward Obstruction Warning (FOW):

Detects vehicles in front and alerts the driver to an approaching risk of collision early enough for the driver to brake or take evasive action

Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS): Detects lane markings on the road surface and warns drivers of imminent unintentional lane departures

Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM): Detects cars in the blind spot on either side or approaching from behind and alerts the driver to potential risks

High-Beam Control System (HBC): Detects oncoming traffic and vehicles in front and automatically switches headlights between high and low beam, improving visibility at night and aiding hazard avoidance

Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS): Supports safe driving at night by turning the headlights based on the degree of steering input and vehicle speed to maximize illumination and visibility at curves and intersections

Collision Avoidance/ Damage Reduction Support and Smart Brake Support (SBS): Helps reduce the severity of a collision by automatically applying the brakes when a risk of frontal collision is detected while driving at speeds of 15km/h or more

 

World Premiere of All-New Mazda6 Wagon at 2012 Paris Motor Show

Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the world premiere of the all-new Mazda6 wagon at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

It will be exhibited alongside the new Mazda6 Sedan that is currently generating a real buzz at the Moscow Motor Show. Both models displayed at the Paris Motor Show will feature Mazda’s new SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel engine.

Andrew Clearwater, Managing Director Mazda New Zealand says the previous generation Mazda6 wagon was a very strong performer in the New Zealand market and expectations are high for the new wagon.

“When the New Zealand motoring public sees the new Mazda6 wagon I believe they will be blown away by its class leading design that will make it stand out from the competition.”

Sales of the 3rd Generation All-New Mazda6 will begin in New Zealand in early 2013.

The 2012 Paris Motor Show begins September 27 and runs through to October 14.

Depending on individual market requirements, engine options for the Mazda6 include a Standard Power or High Power SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel engine as well as SKYACTIV-G 2.0 and SKYACTIV-G 2.5 direct injection petrol engines.

The new Mazda6 is the flagship model for a new generation of Mazda products. It incorporates the very best of Mazda’s craftsmanship and technical expertise across all domains, from dynamic performance and design, through to environmental performance and safety. It is the second of Mazda’s new generation of products which incorporate both the full range of SKYACTIV technologies and the new KODO – Soul of Motion design theme. It also features a range of advanced safety technologies and Mazda’s unique brake energy regeneration system, i-ELOOP.

Stunning Mazda6 Debuts at Moscow Motor Show

Mazda showcased the very latest in design and technology when the all new third generation Mazda6 Sedan made its much anticipated debut at the Moscow Motor Show.

Featuring the full range of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and the KODO – Soul of Motion design language it is the first Mazda vehicle to feature i-ELOOP, Mazda’s unique brake energy generation system which begins charging the capacitor the moment the driver takes his foot off the accelerator. This is then used to power electronic components of the vehicle resulting in greater fuel economy.

Mazda New Zealand, Managing Director, Andrew Clearwater, believes the first thing that will strike people about the new Mazda6 is its stunning look.

“The Mazda designers have built on the Mazda Takeri concept vehicle which created great interest when it debuted in 2011, to develop an exterior design that conveys tenacity, dignity and a sporty flare. The new Mazda6 really is the complete package of looks and performance and will make as big a mark in the mid-sized segment as its first generation predecessor did in 2002.’

The KODO design has also realised a vehicle that has a spacious comfortable interior and a refined Human Machine Interface (HMI) that creates a cockpit in which the driver can savour the joy of driving.

Driver safety is a real focus in the new Mazda6 and it includes a number of advanced safety features. Rear Vehicle Monitoring (RVM) and Adaptive Front Lighting system (AFS) improve driver awareness and improved field of vision at night, Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) allows the vehicle to avoid or reduce the severity of an accident even if the driver takes no action and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) uses a camera to warn the driver of unintentional lane departures.

The new Mazda6 will be launched in New Zealand early in the New Year.

Mazda to launch four new or updated models by 2014

Big things are happening at Mazda and according to recent reports the Japanese carmaker’s product range is about to get a major overhaul with the introduction of four redesigned models by 2014.

For starters the redesigned CX-5 will be released, but the big launch is the all-new Mazda6 which is due to go on sale late next year.  Previewed by the Takeri concept (pictured), the production model is expected to blend sleek styling with a range of fuel efficient engines.

After the 6, Mazda will apparently introduce redesigned versions of the Mazda3, MX-5 and CX-9 in 2013. All the new models will use Skyactiv technologies and ride on lightweight platforms.

Mazda Takeri concept revealed as preview to next Mazda6

Mazda has released the first images of its Takeri concept which is widely regarded as the precursor to the new Mazda6.

The Takeri will be officially revealed at the upcoming 42nd Tokyo Motor Show in November. Much of the striking mid-size sedan’s styling should be carried over to the next-gen Mazda6 which is expected to go on sale in the first half of 2013,

Like all recent Mazda models, the sleek Takeri adopts the company’s new “KODO – Soul of Motion” design language.

The Takeri has a very attractive design, with many styling cues borrowed directly from the earlier Shinari sports sedan study. One of the key differences is the roof with the Takeri concept receiving a longer more practical coupe-like roof line. The face has also been softened with a new grille, bonnet and larger headlights.

Little is known about the Takeri’s powerplant but Mazda says it will use a Skyactive D diesel engine with stop/start technology and Mazda’s first kinetic energy recovery system. Continue reading “Mazda Takeri concept revealed as preview to next Mazda6” »
