Lamborghini to build a new “everyday car”

May 25th, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

After a recent press event rumours that Lamborghini will build its Estoque sedan have sparked up again. The cause?  Lambo’s chief executive, Stephen Winkelmann, has stated that a third model line was under development.

Winklemann went on to say “It has to be an everyday car. We want to have a car which is able to be used on a daily basis.” He wasn’t kind enough to give clues like which segment the new car would compete in, but he did indicate that it would benefit from collaboration with the VW Group. He also confirmed that the car would take about four years before it reaches showrooms.

Suspicions are running high that the future vehicle is the a production version of the Estoque concept, which was originally unveiled way back at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. If the Estoque does reach production it’s likely to share underpinnings with the next-generation Porsche Panamera, Audi A9 and possibly a Bentley four-door coupe.

Lamborghini Aventadors slice through Italian countryside (+video)

May 3rd, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

Lamborghini keeps showing off footage of its latest raging bull the Aventador and you can’t blame the Italian carmaker because its an amazing machine.

This latest clip follows two Aventador models as they rapidly navigate a rolling piece of Italian country tarmac. It’s the stuff daydreams are made of and there’s no ridiculous special effects just two beautiful machines taking a spirited drive. If you could afford the asking price for the Aventador life would certainly be different.

The Aventador represents the latest in the evolution of Lamborghini’s top supercars. The 515kW carbon-fibre beast weighs in at a ultra light 1,574 kg, gifting it the kind of power-to-weight ratio typically found on a race track.

If you’re inspired by the video below and you have a disgusting amount of cash then Lamborghini will sell you one for around $370,000 USD or $459,500 in NZ money. Luckily, dreams are much cheaper. Continue reading “Lamborghini Aventadors slice through Italian countryside (+video)” »

Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore edition celebrates unification

March 11th, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

Following the Gallardo Bicolore special edition announced a month ago Lamborghini is back at it with a new special edition Gallardo – the Tricolore.

Even if your Italian isn’t so flash you may have worked out that the name hints at one more colour. What’s it all about? The Gallardo Tricolore commemorates the 150th anniversary of Italian unification. But rather than paint the entire car in three colours the Tricolore arrives in white with the three colours of the Italian flag as an offset stripe, running over the top of the car and also through the interior.

The extremely limited edition model is set for an official unveiling next week in Turin, when more details and images will be released. So far no details have been given on the exact quantity to be produced and the specific drivetrain configuration. The Gallardo’s beastly 5.2-litre V10 engine is currently offered with 550-, 560- and 570-horsepower power outputs, putting its grunt to either the rear wheels or all four, and with manual or e-gear transmissions. Lamborghini Gallardo Bicolore Edition revealed in Qatar

January 27th, 2011 by Darren Cottingham

Lamborghini has just revealed a new Bicolore edition Gallardo 560-4 at the Qatar Auto Show.

It’s a striking vehicle but comes as little surprise following on from the Gallardo SE revealed back in 2006. The new 560-4 version sports a familiar high-contrast paint scheme with black covering the roof section, pillars, front air intakes and front spoiler. There’s also special titanium-finish multispoke Skorplus alloys filling the guards. The remainder of the bodywork can be purchased in yellow, orange, silver, blue or white, while the interior is black leather with contrasting stitching to match the exterior color.

The Gallardo LP 560-4 Bicolore comes packing Lambo’s V10 engine pumping out 560-horsepower and putting it to the ground through an all-wheel drive system. The model is exclusive to the European and Asia-Pacific markets. The North American market will receive the Bicolore treatment on the LP 550-2, which is the the rear-wheel-drive, 550-hp car.

Anderson Germany creates Lamborghini Gallardo White Edition

December 17th, 2010 by Darren Cottingham

Aftermarket tuner Anderson Germany has turned its attention to the Lamborghini Gallardo and the result is the special ‘White Edition’. Some discrete exterior modifications implemented by the Düsseldorf-based tuner mix in with an all encompassing arctic white paintjob. Despite being white the ‘White Edition’ is anything but bland and features contrasting 20-inch alloys with shiny black spokes and a full 600 ponies under the bonnet.

According to Anderson Germany, exterior upgrades include tinted windows and tail-lights, some carbon fibre trim and a widened bodykit. There are also small LED lights on the sides of the Gallardo and red brake calipers, which really should have been painted white.

The white theme pushes into the inside where there is white cladding and two tone seats finished in black Alcantara with white leather.

The engine hasn’t been painted white but it has been fitted with sport air filter and exhaust system and, after some work on the ECU, now produces 600 hp, or 40 more horses than the standard 5.2-litre V10 engine. A sport suspension set up completes the special treatment.

The Lamborghini Gallardo White Edition is available for purchase, but pricing details haven’t been released just yet.

Lamborghini Gallardo vs Stuart Appleby’s golf ball (+video)

December 7th, 2010 by Darren Cottingham

What does Golf and Lamborghini have in common? Not much until the invention of forged composite carbon. The ultra-modern material is used in both the Lamborghini Gallardo and the new Callaway Diablo Octane driver. So the two companies decided to get together for some shameless promotions and put the golf club against the hardcore LP560-4 to see if pro Stuart Appleby can drive a golf ball 250 meters faster than the Gallardo can cover the same distance from a rolling start.

With a good drive Stuart Appleby can launch a golf ball at about 280kph. By comparison a Lamborghini Gallardo can approach speeds of 320kph. The supercar is already at a good pace as it crosses the start line, and Appleby appears to strike the ball at almost exactly the same time. In the video the Lambo goes full-throttle right through the finish line with no sign of the ball anywhere near, but the power of slo-mo helps reveal the truth. You want the truth? Then check out the video below. Continue reading “Lamborghini Gallardo vs Stuart Appleby’s golf ball (+video)” »

Lamborghini Estoque four-door to enter production

December 6th, 2010 by Darren Cottingham

At the recent Bologna Motor Show in Italy, Lamborghini big boss, Stephan Winkelmann confirmed that the Lamborghini Estoque will finally enter production. The announcement of the production version of the Estoque was followed by word that there will not be a Lambo SUV in the near future as rumoured. A four door Lamborghini is a much more plausible business decision, especially considering that a concept has already been developed – the Estoque.

The Estoque concept was first premiered at the Paris auto show back in 2008 and received a lot of attention ever since. Measuring 5.15 meters in length, 1.99 m in width, and 1.35 m height the Estoque is a monster and has a 3.01 meters wheelbase. When it finally hits the streets the Estoque better be sharp because as a four-seat sportscar it will have to battle it out with the Porsche Panamera Turbo and the Aston Martin Rapide.

No details have been released yet regarding powertrain choices for the Lamborghini Estoque. However, it’s possible a V12 and all-wheel-drive combination would be the go.

Check back for more info on the production version of the Lamborghini Estoque. Continue reading “Lamborghini Estoque four-door to enter production” »

Porsche 911 GT3 vs Lamborghini Gallardo in Paris street race (+video)

December 2nd, 2010 by Darren Cottingham

Here at Car and SUV we don’t encourage street racing, but occasionally something comes past our desks that’s a little bit special. This latest big budget street race video to reach the internet puts a Porsche 911 GT3 against a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera around the streets of Paris.

It’s an elegantly shot video with professional drivers putting the exotic metal through its paces. Will the GT3’s precise German engineering be enough to fend off the Raging Bull? You’ll have to watch the video below to find out. But there is certainly something awesome about seeing the latest European supercars skid along cobblestone Parisian streets.
