Valentino Balboni is the man behind the Lamborghini of the same name and a video has just hit the Internet with the famed test driver thrashing his own Lamborghini LP550-2 across a frozen countryside.
Balboni’s shows some Italian charm as he offers up some insight into Lamborghinis past and present, his time with the automaker and the development of the LP550-2, among others.
When questioned about the lack of all-wheel drive, Balboni says simply, “You need to control the car, the car doesn’t control you.” He backs it up with another inch-perfect powerslide and goes about his business. Brilliant.
It’s been a long time since Lamborghini first unveiled its Murcielago. In it’s original form the Diablo replacement came with a 6.2-litre V12 pumping out 580 horsepower and 480 lb-ft torque. Since then Lamborghini has kept putting more into the car with increased horsepower and limited editions like the Reventon and the ultimate variant the LP670-4 SuperVeloce. Both good and bad tuners have got their hands on it, and Lamborghini even managed to get it out on the racetrack.
It’s been a wild ride and now Lamborghini is celebrating building its 4,000th Murcielago. In comparison, just 2,900 Diablos were built in 10 years from 1991-2001.
The 4,000th Murcielago was recently completed at the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory where Lamborghini marked the occasion. The special car is a LP670-4 SV model with a bright Arancione Atlas (orange) paint scheme, and its lucky new owner will take delivery at Lamborghini’s showroom in Hangzhou, China.
