The hard working crew at Nissan UK are pushing on with building the Juke-R prototype and have revealed their latest video.
Fitting the mechanical bits from Nissan’s GT-R supercar into the tiny Juke crossover has proved understandably tricky. But as seen in previous videos, the team has got the engine and drivetrain in place and it’s time to start re-fitting the interior.
Just throw in a couple of buckets and some gauges right? Nah it’s not that easy. With the large GT-R engine pushed back into what was the Juke’s cabin, the builder’s needed to rework almost everything to make sure the controls were accessible to whatever brave soul is going to pilot this unnatural beast.

Every year since the GT-R debuted in 2007, Nissan has made tweaks for each model year. In keeping with this tradition the latest Godzilla has just been revealed with more power and a couple of new tricks.
The new 2012 GT-R is set to officially debut later this month at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.
There’s no point looking for any styling differences because there are none with the main changes being mechanical. Power has been increased with the twin-turbocharged engine now producing 404kW and 632Nm of torque. Previous models made 390kW and 612Nm so the difference will be likely be enough to feel, just.
Nissan are also claiming that engine response and torque at mid- and low-speeds, and power at high revolutions, has also been significantly improved. Surprisingly there are also claims that fuel efficiency has been improved from the current models 11.8l/100km rating but new figures haven’t been released yet.
The power increase comes largely from improved intake efficiency. Air flow resistance, for example, has been reduced by adding an intake manifold fitted to the head of each unit and the use of special resin in the enlarged air intake duct for the intercooler. Nissan has released the fifth installment in its Nissan Juke-R video series which follows the UK-arm of Nissan as it fits the engine and running gear of the GT-R supercar into the Juke small crossover.
This latest installment sees the Japanese automaker strike problems as it attempts to fit the GT-R’s gearbox and all-wheel drive system into the small crossover.
The most significant issues arise from the Juke-R’s wheelbase that is 250mm shorter than the GT-R’s.
The answer comes in the form of shorter prop shafts while making other necessary changes to keep the GT-R’s rigidity and handling.

The Nissan Juke-R prototype has quickly captured the imagination of performance car fans globally. Work on the GT-R powered Juke continues and a new video has been released by Nissan’s UK arm, which has been assigned the tough task.
Building the Juke-R means taking the 390kW GT-R’s 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 motor and creating space for it in the compact crossover. But that alone wouldn’t be enough, the Juke-R will also be fitted with the full all-wheel-drive system, the GT-R’s electronics and complete drivetrain. Once completed, the Juke-R is expected to be the world’s fastest crossover and the first of two prototypes will go on show at the Tokyo Motor Show in December.
Till then Nissan is drip-feeding video updates showing its progress on the Juke-R. It certainly looks like a challenging build. This latest video (view below) walks us through the work that’s going into constructing the roll cage inside the Juke’s body shell. It also shows us the structure that will house the GT-R’s engine, drivetrain and mechanical systems.

Nissan’s UK arm recently undertook an ambitious project when it decided to drop the running gear of a GT-R supercar into the body of its Juke crossover.
Building the Juke-R means taking the 390kW GT-R’s 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 motor and creating space for it in the compact crossover’s engine bay. That alone would be tricky enough but the Juke-R will also be fitted with the full all-wheel-drive system, the GT-R’s electronics and complete drivetrain. Not exactly something you’d knock together in your garage with a few mates.

Work is progressing the Nissan Juke-R project that will see the big-power drivetrain from Nissan’s GT-R supercar wedged into the Juke small crossover. Two street legal prototypes are currently being built in a collaboration effort by Nissan Europe and motorsports firm RML. One of the prototypes will be in RHD with the other in LHD.
The Godzilla motor is the latest version of this 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 monster and produces 390kW of power and 612Nm of peak torque. Nissan’s engineers mounted the GT-Rs six-speed transaxle under the boot while the front and rear ends are joined by a modified GT-R 4WD driveline and prop shaft.
Once the frog-eyed Juke has it’s new engine in place Nissan will modify the exterior with a carbon-fibre wide body kit that includes several GT-R styling touches. Taking the powertrain from a high-performance vehicle and dropping it into something totally different can be a great idea. But not always, and the latest carmaker to try its hand is Nissan Europe which has confirmed that a special one-off high-powered Juke crossover is being developed.
So which of Nissan’s hard core engines will make it into the Juke? None other than the twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6 mill that powers the current Nissan GT-R. This will turn the Juke into a 390kW machine and has seen the concept dubbed ‘Super Juke’. With the larger engine the Super Juke should accelerate from standing to 100km/h in under four seconds and on to a top speed of dangerous proportions.
Rally-inspired sports styling is also expected with the concept so prepare for enlarged wheel arches, a deep front splitter, bonnet vents, two-story rear wing and stripped-out interior for reduced weight. Continue reading “Nissan GT-R engine + Juke Crossover = Super Juke” »

The R35 Nissan GT-R is now firmly in its twilight years after first reaching the market back in 2007. To keep sales strong the Japanese carmaker is set to push out the GT-R’s power figures even more and add a new, final edition to the current model range.
Apparently the upcoming 2012 R35 GT-R will get a power increase of a further 22kW over the the current model. This will boost total output to 418kW with a thumping 661Nm of torque.
If that wasn’t enough to get Godzilla fans going all funny, there’s also a new top dog version in the works – the Spec R. This new Spec R model is set to supersede the current Spec V model and will receive further weight reduction of between 30kg and 40kg.
