The volume-selling Ford F-150 truck has been updated for 2012 with various mechanical and equipment updates in preparation for its next assault on the U.S market.
As Ford’s most popular truck, the F-150 has been subtly revised with styling updates that include a flashy new FX Appearance Package. This cosmetic upgrade is available on both FX4 and FX2 models and includes tinted headlights, graphics on the body, special badging, smoked lights and flat-black 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the FX model receives black leather seating surfaces with red piping, black-painted dash accents, brushed metal surfaces and a satin gear stick.
Mechanically, Ford has replaced its electronic shift-on-the-fly system with an enhanced two-speed automatic 4×4 set up that has an automatic mode for Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum trim levels. A Hill Start Assist feature has also been added across the range to help prevent the heavy truck from rolling backwards.
The SVT F-150 Raptor also gets some treatment with restyled wheels, revised graphics and a new Torsen front differential. There’s also a clever front camera system that allows drivers to view obstacles through the eight-inch cabin mounted screen. It can display at speeds up to 25 km/h and has a dedicated washer system to keep it clean. Continue reading “2012 Ford F-150 truck receives updates (+video)” »

It’s no secret that those who love Harley-Davidson motorbikes usually ride Harley-Davidson motorbikes. But even the most diehard fans still occasionally, need something with a roof and a little more space. That’s where the Ford F-150 Harley Davidson Edition enters the fray.
Since first joining forces back in 1999, Ford and Harley-Davidson has produced a total of ten F-150 models, six Super Duty F-250 and F-350 models, as well as one Harley-Davidson F-450 edition truck in 2009. Combined sales for all these special models is more than 70,000 units.
For the 2012 model year Ford has just revealed it’s latest F-150 Harley Davidson Edition which like its predecessors, gets styling tweaks and extra kit.
The F-150 H-D is available in two colours, the more traditional Tuxedo Black or a new White Platinum Tri-Coat finish combined with flame graphics on the sides finished in a snakeskin texture.
Filling the high wheel arches are 22-inch machined-aluminum rims wrapped in low profile tyres and featuring painted accents and unique center caps. There’s also smokedheadlamps and tail lights, as well as the six-bar billet-style bright chrome grille and plenty of “Harley-Davidson” badging. Ford America has just unveiled the latest Harley-Davidson edition of its F-150 full-size pickup truck. The big news for the new model of this famous special edition is that it will receive the same 6.2-litre V8 engine that’s used in the 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor making it the most powerful F-150 Harley-Davidson to date.
The 6.2 litre mill replaces the soon-to-be-axed 5.4-litre V8, and raises output from 320 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque to a more impressive 411 hp and 434 lb-ft. The gasoline unit is hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission with a manual gearbox available as an option.
“This engine has tons of torque and already has been proven in the field with both the F-150 SVT Raptor and Super Duty,” said Mike Harrison, Ford’s V8 engine program manager. “The exhaust for the Ford Harley-Davidson edition has been specially tuned to feature a throaty V8 rumble customers will love.”
In addition to the substantially increased power, the F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition receives new side graphics and an upgraded instrument cluster. This new gauge pod has a full-color 4.2-inch LCD display located between the speedometer and tachometer that displays a variety of information including fuel economy and readouts from the inclinometer and roll angle sensors.
Filling the guards are 22-inch Euroflange forged wheels with a polished center wheel cap and low-profile performance tyres.
Inside, there’s black leather seats embossed with Harley Davdison ‘cloisonne’ badges. In addition, the trim panels are covered in piano black paint, while the door scuff plate and console lid receive special treatment as well.
