The term pocket rocket has been applied to many small hot hatches, but none have been more deserving of the title than the new Audi S1 Sportback.
Here is a compact turbocharged four-cylinder 2-litre all-wheel-drive city hatchback with a six-speed manual transmission that will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Continue reading “Audi: 2015 S1 Sportback review” »

Spring in Auckland is quite the mixed bag weatherwise. One day, driving wind and rain, the next driving wind and rain, and so on. But occasionally you get a stunner, and I was lucky to get that – for just one day – while the new A3 was parked in the Car and SUV driveway.
The best thing that has happened to the A3 cabriolet over the old model is the introduction of another model to the range – the sedan. Having that pen-work already done means Audi was able to make the car look and function more like its almost-iconic A4 cabriolet – and now that model is gone bridge the gap to the A5 drop-top. You’d think that getting out of a 221kW Audi S3 and straight into a 132kW A3 might be a bit of a let-down, but it actually wasn’t bad at all.
In comparison to the S3, the A3 gets much nicer throttle mapping for the downshifts and a whole extra gear ratio with 7 on tap from the S Tronic gearbox. The available power from the 1.8-litre turbo engine means 7.3 seconds to 100kph, which is quite respectable and very usable in day-to-day driving.

I was walking with a friend when a yellow Lamborghini Murcielago passed us near Westhaven Marina. She asked me why people buy cars like that in bright colours.
“Advertising,” I replied. It’s all about advertising the fact that you can spend half a mil’ on a car, and you want people to know. Plus, it looks cool. She didn’t understand the ‘looks cool’ bit. Continue reading “Audi: 2014 S3 Sportback quattro review” »

Audi’s Q3 is a compact ‘posh roader’ – a small SUV designed predominantly for a life of parking outside cafes and bars. It’s Audi’s contender against the Range Rover Evoque (read review) and BMW X1 (read review). Luxury brands seem to be shrinking their offerings to make them more available to the recently washed masses, so we tore up the city in this peppy diesel SUV.
If you remember the Q7 (read review) then you’ll know it was a monstrous vehicle that filled entire country roads and is basically just Continue reading “Audi Q3 2.0TDI 2012 Review” »

For any type of car 10 million is a big number to produce, but when it comes to luxury sedans that number is absolutely huge. Audi has a right to celebrate as it’s now produced 10 million A4/80 models.
Audi first produced the A4’s predecessor, the Audi 80, back in 1972 and the model line has stayed popular ever since. The 80 went through four-generations until it was replaced by the A4 in 1994. The A4 is now in it’s fourth generation and has seen over 5 million units produced.
The 10 millionth 80/A4 built was a red Audi S4 with a black and alabaster-white interior which rolled off the assembly line earlier this month.
The A4 is assembled at Audi’s plant in Ingolstadt, Germany with some models produced at the automaker’s Neckarsulm plant near Stuttgart. The current A4 comes in several variants including the sports-focused S4 models and has recently been facelifted.

Rumors of an Audi TT-RS Plus have been floating around for a while, but new details are beginning to emerge about the even more performance focused coupe.
According to recent reports, the car will debut sometime next year with an upgraded 2.5-litre engine that will produce 283 kW. Weight-saving measures will also include dropping 60kg by removing the rear seats .
Away from the reduced weight and added performance, this mystery machine may also receive unique alloy wheels and a fixed rear spoiler. Continue reading “Rumours of mysterious Audi TT-RS Plus continue” »

New details have just been revealed on the upcoming 2012 Audi A3. The new compact model will come in four variants with different dimensions and wheelbase length.
There’s a 3-door hatch and Cabriolet A3 variants which will measure 4.26 meters long (167.7 inches) with a wheelbase of 2.595 meters (102.2 inches). There’s also a 5-door Sportback version and 4-door sedan that will measure 4.44 meters long (174.8 inches) with a 2.630 m (103.5 inches) wheelbase. The widths of all models will be the same.
Audi design chief Stefan Sielaff says the A3 range will be configured in a very similar fashion to the A4 and A5 line-ups. He also said the next Audi A3’s interior will be influenced by the Audi A3 e-tron concept (pictured above) that was introduced at Auto Shanghai earlier this year.
