Z-cars for Tokyo cops

Nisaan370zcop1Dubai cops may be a bit more bling with their collection of Euro supercars, but but Tokyo Metro Police haven’t done badly when it comes to cool new toys either.

Nissan’s go-fast arm Nismo has given the metropolitan department three powered-up 370Zs, in Japan’s traditional two-tone black and white.

Unfortunately the police in spiritual home of rice rocket street racing won’t be chasing much more than column-centermetres in the specced-up new machines – they’re for promoting road safety, not enforcing it.

“They chose the NISMO Z because they wanted an iconic car,” explains Makoto Fujii, a manager at Nissan Japan. “It’s a long time since we last supplied cars to the MPD.”

Nissan’s iconic Z-Cars have been used by the police in Japan before, including the Z32 in the mid-90s and the 1970s race-spec Fairlady Z423, packing at specially-tuned GT-R engine.

Even though the new trio of Zeds is intended as PR showpieces, the cars are already kitted out with full police electronics kits, including scanners – so their 260kW could be unleashed on drifter chasing without too much effort.
