New XC-90 retail price starts under $100k

The new Volvo XC-90 SUV is due to arrive in New Zealand before the end of June with prices starting at $97,900. The plug-in hybrid T8 Twin Engine model will retail from $134,900.

A left-hand-drive 2015 XC-90 will be on display for prospective buyers to view at the Volvo Ocean Race village at the Volvo Pavilion in Auckland between February 27 and March 15 2015.

The XC-90 debuted in August 2014 at a gala event in Stockholm, Sweden. Reaction to the XC90 exceeded expectations, with all 1,927 First Edition vehicles selling in less than 48 hours.

Volvo Car New Zealand general manager Steve Kenchington says the vehicle is an exciting step towards the future for Volvo in New Zealand.

Kenchington says the XC90 embodies new heights of performance, luxury and of course safety. He told Car and SUV that 16,000 orders have already been taken for the vehicle.

The New Zealand launch of the Volvo XC90, encompassing D5 and T6 engines with Momentum and Inscription trim levels, along with the T8 Twin Engine Inscription, takes place in the beginning of the third quarter of 2015.

The R-Design variants are being launched later in the third quarter of 2015.

Recommended retail prices are as follows:

  • 2015 XC-90 D5 AWD
  • Momentum $97,900
  • Inscription $104,900
  • R-Design $106,900
  • 2015 XC-90 T6 AWD
  • Inscription $110,900
  • R-Design $112,900
  • 2015 XC-90 T8 Twin Engine (AWD)

  • R-Design $136,900
