War of words brewing over Ute market leadership

A war of words is brewing over the leadership of the Ute market in New Zealand.

Before 2014 was even over Toyota launched an advertising campaign pushing the ageing Hilux as the number 1 selling 4×4 utility in New Zealand, while Ford today have come out to claim the overall top sales spot formerly held by the Japanese manufacturer for 32 years.

According to provisional sales figures, the Ford Ranger was the top selling ute for the month of December with more than 700 sold, and it was also overall leader for 2014 with a total of 6345 sold.

“A lot of attention was put on the sales race this year but we’ve always said it’s about the customer and leaving it up to them to decide,” says Ford New Zealand managing director Corey Holter.

Well, the customer has decided and there is a new number one in New Zealand. We are very proud of the Ford Ranger.”

Ford New Zealand marketing manager Chris Masterson cites overall value as the main driver for the Ford Ranger’s success.

“Customers appreciate the smart technology, and the five-star safety rating for all models both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive. The bottom line is the Ford Ranger offers the customer much more for their investment,” he says.
