VW forming dedicated ‘R’ performance division

BMW has M. Mercedes has AMG. Audi has Quattro. Now Volkswagen is ready to launch the R brand as a separate performance division of the company.

The official announcement is expected at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March. After that, the stage is set for additional performance models to come out of the new R division. Recent offerings include the new Golf R (which is arriving in NZ this month), the Scirocco R, and there are reports of an upcoming Jetta R previewed by the new Compact Coupe concept unveiled in Detroit.

It may look to many as simply a new marketing strategy but if we get some exciting new performance-focused vehicles, everyone wins.
