Volkswagen reveals Golf GTI Adidas Edition

Volkswagen reveals Golf GTI Adidas Edition

If you’re a VW Golf GTI fan the largest event on the global calender is the annual GTI meetup in Wörthersee, Austria. It’s where GTI fans from Europe converge to celebrate the iconic hot hatch and also where VW unveils new special variants of the sporty Golf. Two special edition GTIs have just been revealed at this year’s event, the Golf GTI Adidas (above) will go on sale in Europe next month while the GTI Excessive (below) remains just a concept, for now.

The Golf GTI Adidas is a three-door GTI collaboration that carries the name of the famous German sportswear brand. The only exterior differences are subtle Adidas badges on the B-pillars and unique 10-spoke alloy wheels. On the inside it’s a different story where the usual GTI plaid upholstery has been replaced by black finished seats with red side bolsters and the Adidas triple stripe down the middle. The cars equipped with VW’s DSG dual-clutch gearbox also get an old-school shift knob with golf ball texturing. There’s also special door kick plates and decorative floor mats.

The GTI Excessive is much more of a mystery and features a series of new motorsports inspired exterior parts all finished in a high-gloss piano black. The aerodynamic enhancements include front spoiler, side skirts and a gimmicky rear diffuser that lights up when the car brakes. While it’s unlikely the GTI Excessive will ever see production some of its special components may find their way into the automaker’s aftermarket catalogue.

The VW Golf GTI Adidas is expected to sell in the Australian market, so keep an eye out for a couple to make it here to NZ.
