Turners looking for high miler

14118997abTurners are handling the sale of an incredibly high-mileage Toyota Hiace, and looking for other similarly high mileage vehicles.

The company is offering a $100 fuel voucher to people who post other similarly impressive mileages on their Facebook page.

The ute being self is a 2.4-litre diesel 1993 model, that had covered 1,211,493kms by one owner. If it were a space shuttle, the Christchurch-built ute would be on the return leg of its second trip to the moon.

“The owner bought the Hilux new in 1993 as a delivery vehicle and immediately started clocking up 300km a day, six days a week until going into semi retirement in 2006,” Turners says in its Facebook post. “Nine years of semi-retirement saw another 211,000kms added, which would hardly be called retirement for most vehicles but then this isn’t most vehicles.

The company says the original owner says the secret to the reliability is regular servicing and tough engineering. It has never had the head off, the transmission and differential remain untouched, and it had its radiator replaced at 1 million km.

That puts it in better stead than the Volvo P1800 that holds the flag as the most travelled passenger car. While now having travelled far further, it had its first engine rebuild at 1.1 million km.

The ‘Super ute’ is being sold online at a $1 reserve, it can be found here
