Toyota Prius demand in New Zealand strong

Toyota New Zealand’s general manager of Sales and Operations, Steve Prangnell, said Prius sales are subject to at least a two month waiting list in New Zealand, as local demand has gone through the roof in response to raising international oil prices.

Additionally he said the performance of the Prius is proving to be a reliable and smart choice for fleet customers as well as private individuals looking for a vehicle with a lower carbon footprint.

“Westpac have just moved their mobile mortgage managers to Prius, and Green Cabs, a Wellington-based Taxi company have selected Prius for their fleet of Taxis and they are expanding into Auckland, and Christchurch,” said Mr Prangnell.

“Our dealers now have to advise customers that they may face a wait of two months or more due to the increased demand both here and abroad,” said Mr Prangnell.

Prius has a petrol engine and an electric motor / generator with performance similar to a 2.4 litre conventionally powered car. The Prius can carry five people and their luggage.

Its Hybrid Synergy Drive system delivers seamless, high-responsive power to meet the needs of drivers under all conditions.

Mr Prangnell said Prius has recently been internationally recognised at the 2008 International Engine of the Year Awards winning Green Engine of the Year.

Furthermore, the Toyota Prius gained a second J.D Power and Associates award after emerging as the highest scoring individual model in the 2008 UK Customer Satisfaction Index Study, retaining the position it held in 2007.
