Top Gear test track may be replaced by housing project

First there was the severe budget cuts for the latest series, now the Top Gear test track has an uncertain future due to a proposed eco-village. Dunsfold Aerodome is the official name for the Top Gear track and the Dunsfold local townsfolk are in discussions with big business over a new residential development that’s slated to be built right over the famous air strip.

The Aerodome could no longer be the scene for screeching tyres and burned fossil fuels and become ironically a eco-village. Real estate development firm Rutland Group is planning a 2,600-home eco-suburb on the property with a loan secured from the Royal Bank of Scotland. Locals are organising against the plan, but to make things just a tad more complicated, RBS was recently nationalised by the British government, bringing politics into it as well. Considering that the BBC (which produces Top Gear) is also a state-owned corporation, this is bound to get messy.

Gambon corner, Chicago, the hammerhead, the Top Gear test track is now better known than most International racing circuits and has recently been included in various car racing video games. It would be a shame to lose it now.
