Top business vehicles announced

Legacy-2015The top ‘business’ vehicles sold in the country have been announced, with safety high on the judges agenda.

The Company Vehicle Magazine awards are chosen by a panel of journalists from more than 120 vehicles launched in the New Zealand market in the year to the end of September.

Managing editor John Oxley notes the importance of business sales to the market.

“About 70 percent of new vehicles sold in New Zealand are destined to be used for business purposes, so these awards represent an important part of the motoring landscape,” says Oxley.

The 2015 winners were:

  • Compact Car – Mazda2
  • Small Car – Peugeot 308
  • Medium Car – Ford Mondeo
  • Large Car – Subaru Legacy
  • Executive Car – Volvo XC90
  • Compact SUV – Mazda CX-3
  • Medium SUV – Hyundai Tucson
  • 4WD – Toyota Prado
  • Utility – Ford Ranger
  • Van – Fiat Ducato

This year safety technology has been stretching through the market to even the smallest vehicles, something welcomed in the fleet trade.

“As always we were faced with a number of difficult choices as vehicles are getting more and more complex and capable, with even the smallest cars gaining technology which a scant few years ago was limited to the most expensive cars, and it is gratifying to see that many of these features are aimed at making the motor vehicle – for many of our readers their workplace – safer and more comfortable,” adds Oxley.

“Indeed, with the sweeping changes taking place in Occupational Safety and Health, these features are becoming more important than ever before, and during the year ahead I would expect more safety features to find their way into vehicles used by companies to ensure they meet OSH standards.

“Having said that, there are still some vehicles which are available on the New Zealand market that pay scant heed to what must be accepted as the bare minimum of safety standards, such as electronic stability systems and active crash avoidance electronics, and we will be highlighting these serious omissions where necessary during 2016.”
