Suzuki reveals new Ignis concept at Tokyo

A new Ignis five-door hatchback and open low deck mini-car are among the 22 cars being displayed by Suzuki on its stand at the October Tokyo International Motor show.

The latest Ignis revives a name Suzuki used for the small five-door hatchback that ended production in 2008. Production of the new generation is scheduled to commence in the second half of 2016 after testing recently concluded in the Swiss Alps.

The stand at the Tokyo Motor Show is labeled Suzuki Next 100 as a precursor to the company’s 100-year birthday celebration in 2020.

Based on the iM-4 concept car, the Ignis has bold styling for a small car, with prominently flared wheel arch moldings, a full-width grille with encapsulated headlights, a clam-shell shaped bonnet and projector headlights.

It has generous ground clearance and distinctive looks that give it a unique character. A futuristic interior includes a bold dashboard and a central tablet-style display for the infotainment system.

It also has insertable colour panels for the dashboard.

Meanwhile, the Mighty Deck concept mini-car has a canvas top and open read deck that can be repositioned to suit different loading requirements. It features an automatic raise and lowering function for the deck.

Suzuki’s unique looking Air Triser compact minivan boasts what designers describe as a private lounge.

The seats can face each other or can be altered to form a sofa while a prominent media control comprises a Smartphone on a large formal display extending from one of the van’s B-pillars to the ceiling.
A clever Hustler Scoot unveiled in Tokyo is a 50 cc scooter with extra carrying capacity. In addition to a conventional under seat luggage bay, the Scoot has a removable, carryable luggage case mounted between the rider’s feet. There is also more storage space on the rear carrier and at the side of the bodywork.

The Suzuki stand at the Tokyo show also features cutaway displays of the company’s newly developed engines, including the fuel efficient and technically advanced power units that will power the upcoming Baleno hatchback.
