Subaru releases Impreza WRX STI R205

Subaru Impreza WRX STI 205 fq

Following in a line of successfully brutal Impreza variants, Subaru has announced the all-new “R205” version of its current model hatch.

As it’s been done in the past with other special street/performance Imprezas, Subaru has dipped into the Spec C parts bin and fitted some good kit to the Impreza STI R205. Upgrades include six-pot (front) and four-pot (rear) brakes with slotted rotors and cast 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in specially designed Potenza RE070 (245/40R18) tyres. Replacement inverted strut and coil springs absorb the bumps up front, with similarly STI-tuned dampers and coils out back.

The engine hasn’t been overlooked and performance mods include a retuned ECU and new exhaust and turbo. The end result is that the R205 pushes out 235kW and 432Nm of torque.

A few plaques, a unique black front grille, new front and rear diffusers and a black spoiler set the R205 apart from lesser JDM Imprezas, and if you’re fortunate enough to live in Japan, it can be yours for 4,510,000 yen (about $66k NZ). But act quick, Subaru only plans to produce 400 units.
