Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C gains Group N Homologation

Subaru shocked the motor racing world by pulling the plug on its World Rally Championship team run by Prodrive back at the end of 2008, but the Japanese carmaker is still trying to keep a connection with the sport.

Yesterday, Subaru has announced that it’s Impreza WRX STI Spec C has achieved 2010 FIA Group N homologation, which is a necessary requirement to enter any FIA-approved racing and rallying championships that take place around the world.

Group N (production cars) is one of the rally and off-road vehicle groups set forth by the FIA and imposes tight limits on modifications to production models, which has seen it become one of the categories that best reflects and tests the natural performance of basic production models. Compared to the standard specification model Group N mods generally include enhanced engine and chassis performance as well as a lighter body.

As a Group N vehicle and in contrast to the Group A all-out competition production-derived cars, the Impreza WRX STI spec C features limited modifications compared to the standard specification model that include enhanced engine and chassis performance as well as a lighter body. The turbocharger also gets new ball bearings for the turbine axle bearing, and the ECU program was also exclusively tuned.

The WRX STI spec C Group N will make its racing debut at the Rallye Deutschland of the Production World Rally Championship that takes place in Germany on August 22.
