Porsche growls at US dealers for using live Tigers

2015-Porsche-Macan-_5_-2Porsche North America has asked its dealers not to use live Tigers or any other live animals when promoting the new Macan SUV reports American industry publication Automotive News.

Macan is the Indonesian word for Tiger, and Automotive News reported that a Florida Porsche dealer, Reeves Import Motorcars, had rented live animals as part of its launch promotion earlier this month.

Another dealer allegedly used live tiger cubs to promote the vehicle, and Automotive News also reported that a North Carolina dealer, Leith Porsche had also planned to use live Tigers as part of its promotion of the Macan.

Porsche Cars North America issued a cease and desist notice to all of its US dealers after it was contacted by animal rights groups concerned about the use of such animals for promotions.

Spokesman Nick Twork told Automotive News that Porsche does not condone in any way the use of live animals for advertising.

According to Automotive News, North America is currently Porsches largest export market, but it is expected that China will overtake the number of vehicles sold by the German sports car brand in the US by early 2015 due to the introduction of the Macan.
