Porsche expanding Panamera variants

Porsche is already making plans to expand its Panamera line-up to include three new powerplants — a Volkswagen-sourced V6, a diesel unit and some type of hybrid. In addition to offering further engine options, the automaker may offer a quicker, more performance-oriented model to slot in above the Turbo.

Similar to the strategy Porsche employed with the Cayenne, this new model which being consistent with Porsche naming could be named the Turbo S or GTS — would jettison the Turbo model’s standard air suspension and instead fit a set of performance-tuned springs and shocks to maximize grip and on-track ability.

As for future powertrains, apparently V6 and V8 diesels could be fitted to future Panameras, and even possibly the new Audi S4’s supercharged, 3.0-litre V6 in the coming years.

The current range includes the standard Panamera, the sportier Panamera S, AWD Panamera 4S and the twin-turbocharged Panamera Turbo, all of which feature a 4.8L V8 engine in either naturally-aspirated or turbocharged guises.
