Porsche considering smaller Panamera – the ‘Pajun’

The internet has become rife with rumours of a new Porsche mid-size vehicle which would see the German carmaker move further from a niche sports car brand into full product line status.

With the Panamera proving to be another sales success for Porsche, a new report has been released indicating the likely development of a smaller model to battle the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class.

Tentatively dubbed the Pajun – short for Panamera Junior – the car would mix Porsche styling cues with a four-door coupe design. In theory it would be a smaller, cheaper version of the Panamera.

Under the bonnet there are rumours the Pajun would receive a 400 – 550 horsepower V8 engine, plus a powerful diesel and possibly an entry-level V6 mill. Given that the Pajun wouldn’t reach production until 2015 at the earliest a hybrid version is also very likely.

At this stage prices for the Pajun are expected to start at around €60,000.
