Porsche 911 GT2 RS – details leaked

The Porsche 911 GT2 is the final variant of the 997-series 911 to receive its mid-life refresh and it comes just as the current generation of Porsche’s iconic supercar approaches the end of its product cycle.

The all-new ‘991’ Porsche 911 is just over a year away so the facelifted 911 GT2, will have a surprisingly short shelf-life.

Expected for an official debut at the 2010 Paris Auto Show this October, the latest Porsche 911 GT2 will likely pick up the famous “RS” badge according to the first images of the car, taken at a recent dealer presentation in Germany.

According to reports, the GT2 RS will produce a 620 horsepower output and will weigh around 80kg less than the already light standard GT2 base model. Likely to be included in the RS package will be a fully-adjustable suspension package, roll cage and possibly some active aerodynamics for trimming on the fly.

Official performance figures haven’t been released but a 3.2 second 0-100 kph sprint time and even a 7m 22s Nurburgring lap time have already surfaced in rumour form. A limited production run of just 300 examples is expected.

Expect the GT2 RS to go on sale globally towards the end of the year with a price of $245,000 USD.
