October dealership arrival for Mazda3 diesel

The Mazda3 line up is about to get a new addition which is a high performance diesel hatch packed with luxury and technology says the company.

The new Mazda3 SP22 Limited is powered by the 2.2l Skyactiv-D diesel engine which produces 129 kW of power and 420 Nm of torque while delivering fuel consumption from just 5L/100km.

Due for New Zealand release in early October, the SP22 Limited is only available in a hatch and it will sit alongside the top of the range Petrol SP25 Limited hatch. However an array of unique features distinguish it from the SP25 including a front grille with red accent, LED fog lamps, high-gloss lower rear bumper and Bright 18-inch Alloy wheels.

With an ultra-low compression ratio of 14:1 which is the world’s lowest for a diesel engine, a lightweight design, and two stage turbo charger, the SP22 is propelled from 0-100km/h in 7.7 seconds and will reach a top speed of 216km/h*.

All this power is translated to the road through both options of Skyactiv transmissions, a 6-speed Skyactiv-MT manual or 6-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic.

Another feature exclusive to the Mazda3 SP22 Limited – and first seen on the 2013 Mazda6 – is i-ELOOP (Intelligent Energy Loop), Mazda’s braking regeneration system that uses an on-board capacitor to store and redistribute energy to power components like the climate control air conditioning and audio systems to improve fuel economy

The i-ACTIVSENSE safety features include smart brake support (SBS) and smart city brake support (SCBS) systems that help prevent or reduce the severity of an impact by applying the brakes if no evasive action is taken; blind spot monitoring (BSM) warns of any obscured vehicles; in addition to the reversing camera, the rear cross traffic alert (RCTA) warns the driver of if anything is approaching on either side when reversing. The Mazda radar cruise control (MRCC) when set maintains the vehicles speed and automatically adjusts it to maintain a safe distance when following other slower vehicles.

The Mazda3 SP22 Limited Diesel will be available from Mazda dealerships nationwide in October from $49,195 for the Limited 6MT to $50,695 for the 6A; plus on road costs

* All figures for a 6-speed manual hatch unless stated otherwise.
