Nissan Juke smashes early sales predictions in Japan

The Nissan Juke may be a bit awkward-looking for some tastes, but after just a week on sale in Japan it’s showing that quirky styling can lead to popularity — well in Japan anyway. According to business reports Nissan has already sold 1,300 units of the Juke in the automaker’s home market in just one week. That’s already 300 percent more sales than the Japanese automaker predicted in the first month. But wait, there’s more, turns out those 1,300 sales are just the beginning as Nissan has reportedly accumulated 5,296 orders.

Nissan will be highly pleased with the early reception the Japanese public is giving the small crossover. However, the next big test comes in a few weeks, when the Juke goes on sale in Europe and then in the tough American market. Will European and American customers be as keen on the cartoon-styled Juke? Who knows, but the early results in Japan show that unique styling mixed with an efficient and powerful 140kW 1.6-litre turbo engine can make for a hot-selling mini-SUV.
