New Suzuki Grand Vitara

A new, highly specified version of the Suzuki Grand Vitara has been introduced to the New Zealand market.

The Special Edition model is one of the best ever equipped examples of the iconic four-wheel-drive Grand Vitara range, bringing a new level of sophistication at an affordable price.

The Special Edition is clearly distinguished by a new grille incorporating a pair of bright strips, and newly designed 18-inch diameter, ten-spoke aluminium alloy wheels. These are fitted with 225/60R18 tyres.

Also exclusive to this top-shelf Grand Vitara are silver finish roof rails and attractive bonnet vents.

There are new Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control features that further advance the outstanding off road capabilities of the Grand Vitara. These are in addition to the ABS braking system with EBD and brake assist, and the Electronic Stability Control (ESP) function.

“The addition of Hill Hold and Hill Descent convenience and safety items improves both the on and off road performance of the Grand Vitara,” said Tom Peck, General Manager of Marketing for Suzuki New Zealand.

The Grand Vitara Special Edition is the first new Suzuki vehicle in New Zealand to be fitted with a GPS navigation system as standard.

Also included are no fewer than three trip computers, a reversing camera with a 3.5 inch display screen integrated into the rear vision mirror and handsfree Bluetooth connectivity.

An all in one Pantera command centre allows easy operation of the equipment and tracks your route, speed and time.

A factory audio system incorporates CD, tuner, MP3, WMA functions with SD storage card, and steering wheel controls. The standard equipment also includes climate control air conditioning with pollen filter, cruise control, a leather-bound steering wheel and remote centralised door locking.

With its high levels of comfort and safety, stability and equipment level, the 2012 Grand Vitara is the result of 40 years of compact 4WD designs by Suzuki. Unlike most other rival SUVs, the Grand Vitara has selectable high and low ratio gearing for added off road agility.

A key element in Grand Vitara’s performance is its unique monocoque construction incorporating a “built-in” ladder frame chassis. This comprises a series of strengthening elements incorporated into the body which provide the passenger cell with exceptional rigidity and prevent deformation.

The safety performance of the Grand Vitara received a ringing endorsement from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) with the model achieving a four star rating for adult occupant protection and a three star rating for child occupant protection.

Grand Vitara’s passive safety features are backed up by secure handling and stability provided by permanent four wheel drive and a chassis sporting a wide track and relatively long wheelbase.

The Special Edition automatic is powered by a trusty 2.4-litre double overhead camshaft engine with variable value technology, developing 122 kW of power at 6,000 rpm and 225 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.

It has a recommended retail price of $39,990 which includes all driveaway costs, a three-year, 100,000 km warranty and five year Suzuki roadside assistance package.
