Mini Countryman – NZ pricing and availability announced

Mini NZ has announced further details of the eagerly anticipated Mini Countryman, set to arrive in New Zealand next month.

The Mini Countryman is touted to offer the unique handling of a regular Mini with the practical space and versatility of a four-door, plus the traction of a Sports Activity Vehicle optimised by optional all-wheel drive.

Marking a new chapter in the evolution of Mini as a brand, the Countryman is more than four metres long with four doors, the option of four or five seats and a four wheel drive option called “ALL4”.

Mini Countryman pricing will start at $46,900 for the Cooper Countryman and the Mini Cooper D Countryman, featuring a 1.6 litre turbo-diesel engine, will start at $49,900.

All variants feature a six-speed manual as standard and offer an optional six-speed automatic transmission for an additional $3,000.

There are two all-new ALL4 models added to the line-up, which cost an extra $3,000 compared with their two-wheel drive counterparts.

Managing Director of BMW Group New Zealand, Mark Gilbert, said the Mini Countryman will open the door to new Mini customers requiring extra space and flexibility for their family or leisure activities. “The Countryman is versatile enough to accommodate any lifestyle while retaining the sense of fun that makes all Minis so good to drive and enjoyable to own,” said Mr Gilbert.

The 1.6-litre four-cylinder Mni Cooper D Countryman combines common-rail direct fuel injection with a turbocharger featuring variable turbine geometry.

Average fuel consumption for the Mini D Countryman in the EU test cycle was just 4.4 litres/100 kilometres and the CO2 rating  is 115 grams per kilometre. This equates to a range of 1068km from the 47 litre tank, enough to complete a 1054km drive between Auckland and Christchurch on a single fill. In terms of power maximum output is 82 kW at 4,000 rpm with peak torque of 270 Newton-metres at 1,750 rpm.

The 1.6-litre Mini Cooper S Countryman with its twin-scroll turbocharger, offers a strong balance of power and fuel economy. Maximum output of 135 kW comes at an engine speed of 5,500 rpm, peak torque of 240 Newton-metres is available at just 1,600 rpm, increasing briefly by way of overboost all the way to 260 Newton-metres for extra power when accelerating hard.

The MINI Cooper S Countryman accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds and has a top speed of 215 km/h. Fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is  6.6litres/100 kilometres with a CO2 rating of 154 grams per kilometre.

Likewise displacing 1.6 litres, the naturally-aspirated power unit of the Mini Cooper Countryman boasts maximum output of 90 kW coming at 6,000 rpm, with peak torque of 160 Newton-metres at 4,250 rpm. Fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 6.0 litres/100 kilometres with a CO2 rating of 140 grams per kilometre.

The Mini Cooper S Countryman and Mini Cooper D Countryman are both available as an option with the ALL4 all-wheel drive system. The suspension on all models comes as standard with DSC Dynamic Stability Control, while passive safety is ensured not only by the high-load-resistant body structure, but also by six airbags, three-point inertia-reel seat belts on all seats and a Tyre Defect Indicator.

The MINI Countryman comes as standard with two single seats at the rear adjustable individually for length, and is available at no extra cost with a three-seat rear bench providing comfortable seating for five adults. Luggage capacity can be increased in several steps from 350 litres all the way to a massive 1,170 litres.
