McLaren P1 coming to Big Boys Toys

McLaren P1 coming to Big Boys Toys

The McLaren P1 – the world’s most anticipated super car – is coming to Big Boys Toys at the Auckland Showgrounds, from November 7-9.

Described as ‘the best drivers’ car in the world’, the McLaren P1 is the successor to the McLaren F1. Incorporating technology derived from Formula 1, the P1 takes to the road what has been learned on the race track.

It harnesses hybrid power with a 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, combined with an electric motor – which takes the McLaren P1 from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, or incredibly, from 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

Big Boys Toys festival director Sandra Beacham says that the super car will be a highlight of this year’s show.

“The McLaren P1 is a true supercar and we’re delighted that Big Boys Toys will host its official unveiling to the New Zealand public,” she says.

Late last year McLaren Auckland became the 50th global retailer for McLaren Automotive, paving the way for the brand’s return to New Zealand – the birthplace of legendary Bruce McLaren.

“It is a great privilege for the Giltrap Group to be involved in the continuation of the McLaren story here in New Zealand,” says Sir Colin Giltrap, owner of Giltrap Group, the official partner of McLaren Automotive in Auckland.

“Bruce McLaren was someone I knew. He was the quintessential New Zealand pioneer with a vision of combining sportsmanship with solid engineering practice and cutting-edge technical expertise. It is a real honour for the Giltrap name to bring the range of ground breaking cars bearing the McLaren name back to the founder’s home country.

“We’re delighted to partner with Big Boys Toys to unveil this incredible vehicle to New Zealand,” he says.

The McLaren P1 will headline the 15th Anniversary of Big Boys Toys this year as centrepiece of the new ‘Driven Hall’ at the show.

In addition to the McLaren feature site, the Giltrap Group will showcase its impressive display of luxury and performance vehicles including Lamborghini, Porsche and various other marques.

Distributors which have exhibition sites to showcase their latest vehicles include Jaguar, Land Rover, Mazda, Nissan, Skoda, Suzuki and Volvo – and bike manufacturers such as Indian, Suzuki, Victory and Yamaha.

“The Big Boys Toys Driven Hall is the biggest display of automotives in the country,” says Beacham.
