Maserati to produce new entry-level model

At a press conference in Torino, Italy, this past week, Fiat’s executives discussed their current five year business plan with investors, speaking in length about changes to the Maserati brand.

The big news is that two new models are expected to be released by 2014.

One of the cars is set to debut as a new high-end sedan and it’s to be priced below €55,000 ($102,800 NZ).  This new cheaper model would likely compete against the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, BMW M5, and the Audi S6.

A replacement to the successful Quattroporte will be the second new model. The Italian automaker plans to improve sales of the vehicle by reducing the base price of the car. This price cut could be fairly steep, by as much as €4,500 bringing the ticket price to €86k ($160,000).

For now, Maserati also plans to continue production of both its GranCabrio and GranTurismo vehicles.
