Manfeild diversifies to drive-in movies

Manfeild Park in conjunction with Otaki-based Firefly Cinemas is set to host three drive-in movies during the last week of October.

The ‘plot’ features an extra twist insofar as “wannabe patrons” have a chance to join in the selection of films for the October 28, 29 and 31 run accompanied by themes, says Manfeild Park sales and sponsorship manager Michael Barbour.

“The idea of drive-in films came from consideration of more uses for the main grassed arena between Manfeild Stadium and South St,” he says. “We’d been thinking about films for a while and realised this part of our venue, which can accommodate about 200 cars, is perfect.

“We can hang a big screen off the old grandstand that looks out onto the arena with vehicles parked to face it and there you go, it’s showtime!

“The final night, October 31, is Halloween, so we’d like to show something that fits the bill for a ‘fright night’. But, beyond that, well the sky is the limit.”

The films will start around 15 minutes after sunset and the cost is $30 per car. All interested parties can share their thoughts on the Manfeild Facebook page and concomitantly be part of a draw to win free tickets.
