Better than a lottery win says classic Holden fan

Monaro-Giveaway-2-4Holden has announced the winner of the rebuilt 1969 HT Monaro GTS.

A panel of five automotive experts chose Richard Grey as the winner of the Monaro, which was rebuilt to mark Holden’s 60th year in New Zealand.

Grey was surprised at his home to find Holden ambassador Greg Murphy driving up in the Monaro.

“This is better than winning the lottery,” says Grey.

“I’m a huge fan of classic Holdens. I even have a man cave dedicated to Holden memorabilia. My grandfather and my father still drive the classics today – and let me tell you, the level of workmanship that’s gone into this Monaro is amazing.”

The 35 year old has owned four vehicles in his life, each a classic Holden. Now he can add one more to the roster.

The 1969 Monaro GTS coupe was meticulously rebuilt and brought back to its former glory over a period of three months as part of Holden’s 60th birthday celebrations. During this time, Holden shared their favourite memories from the last six decades and asked Kiwis to do the same. The Monaro was offered up as the prize of a lifetime for one lucky fan.

Holden New Zealand managing Director, Jeff Murray says he was impressed with not just the number of applications but also the effort that many Holden fans put into their applications.

“I didn’t envy the role of the judges, they had a very difficult job choosing the winner of the competition, because the calibre of memories shared was overwhelming and truly heart-warming,” says Murray.

“We are delighted to hand over the keys of the Monaro, to a true Holden enthusiast, and we hope this car brings him as many lasting memories as the other classic Holdens he’s owned over the years.”

More than 1400 New Zealanders came forward to share their favourite Holden memory, from the 1950s to today. View some of their Holden stories at
