A life cycle impulse for 40-year-old 3 Series

P90190531_lowResBMW is celebrating the 40th birthday of the 3 Series with the local introduction of the F30 life cycle impulse (LCI) range.

Life cycle impulse is BMW-speak for a planned makeover that generally occurs at the three-year mark in the life cycle of any Munich-engineered and designed car or SUV.

The refreshed 3 Series LCI range features a new exterior design, a freshened interior, driver assistance features and the release of a wide array of efficient, dynamic and powerful torque-laden engine options.

“More than 14 million 3 series cars delivered to customers since introduction,” says BMW New Zealand managing director, Florian Renndorfer.

“It represents the biggest-selling BMW of all time, accounting for around 25% of total BMW vehicle sales,” he says.

“The BMW 3 Series Sedan and Touring together represent the BMW brand’s most successful model range, and the new model is set to build on this achievement,” says Renndorfer.

The F30 BMW 3 Series LCI models feature newly designed headlights with full-LED lighting as well as LED tail lights.

Customers can choose from Line packages such as Sport, Luxury and M Sport, all of which further enhance the new F30 LCI model, as does a range of new alloy wheels.

The interior also receives attention, with new materials and enhanced details in the cockpit environment.

Chrome and black high-gloss accents proliferate throughout the car while the Ambient Light Package extends to the centre console and doors. Revised interior trim finishers also create further differentiation between the old and the new model.

New connectivity and driver safety assistance features also abound on the new F30 LCI model.

For drivers with an aversion to parallel and also perpendicular parking, the new Parking Assistant feature takes control of all steering inputs in a parking situation when selected by a driver.

The driving assistant feature including forward collision warning and light city braking, lane change warning as well as rear view camera, are standard across the range.

BMW ConnectedDrive is standard across the entire range and includes concierge service and intelligent emergency call.

The German manufacturer says it has further optimised the driving dynamics of the F30 3 Series LCI.

Its says the car’s greater agility was achieved by further developing damper technology and suspension, and revising the tuning of the power steering.

A range of new engines is also available, almost all of which feature enhancements in terms of fuel efficiency or power and torque.

“We expect the 320i and 320d will continue to attract the most sales, but anticipate there will be significant interest in the two range-topping models,” says Renndorfer.

The 330i Sedan features an all-new four-cylinder engine that produces 185kW of power while the 330d xDrive Touring offers 195kW and 560Nm of torque.

BMW says the new F30 3 Series LCI is officially on sale from October 24 and starts from $72,000 for both 320i and 320d Sedan models, with the 320i Touring from $75,000.

The new 3 Series range comes standard with three-year scheduled servicing, a five-year warranty and five-year roadside assistance.
