Lexus launches IS350 luxury sedan into NZ market

Lexus New Zealand has added the new IS350 luxury sedan to its IS line.

Lexus National Manager, Debbie Pattullo said, “We are very excited to launch the IS350 in New Zealand. It is positioned squarely between the IS250 and our performance flagship IS F, further building the performance credentials of Lexus.”

The all-new Lexus IS350 is available in two equipment grades. Ms Pattullo said, “IS350 delivers a level of style and luxury our customers expect from Lexus. Plus, we’re giving New Zealand the choice between the refined, supremely well-appointed IS350 Limited, and the more aggressively styled, and agile IS350 F Sport.”

The IS350 features a quad-cam 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine, mated to a six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shift control. It develops 233kW of power and 378Nm of torque, and propels the 2011 IS350 from standstill to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds.

As with the IS250 sedan, the IS350 was designed around the Lexus philosophy of L finesse.

Arrowhead style LED daytime running lights surround the High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights.  LED stop lights were adopted as they offer quicker illumination than conventional bulbs while lasting longer and consuming less energy.

The heated body coloured door mirrors feature LED side indicator lamps and foot area lighting for more convenient entry and exit at night. The mirrored surface dims automatically to prevent glare from following vehicles. Mirror positions can be adjusted electronically and are linked to the driver’s seat memory system.

Rain-sensing wipers operate automatically when water is sensed on the windscreen.

Both IS350 models ride on 18″ alloy wheels — 15-spoke for the Limited and five-spoke sports style for the F Sport.

There are ten exterior colours available for the IS350 Limited and seven for the F Sport model.

Three interior colour schemes are available for the IS350 Limited: Ecru, Light Grey and Black. The F Sport model is available in Black exclusively. Perforated leather seat material is standard and is paired with wood-grain trims in the Limited model or ash blue metallic trims in the F Sport.

A driver’s seat memory system is standard, as is driver and front passenger lumbar support and front seat heaters. The Limited model also has seat air conditioning.

The multi-information display shows outside temperature, driving range, current and average fuel consumption, average vehicle speed, and sequential gear shift position.

Lexus’ 14-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Audio system is standard for IS350. Music can be selected from the six-disc CD/DVD changer, 3.5mm auxiliary input jack or USB jack.
Bluetooth handsfree telephone capability ensures calls can be safely made or received while on the road.

A seven inch central Electro Multi Vision (EMV) screen houses the Satellite Navigation system, reversing camera monitor and controls for the air conditioning and audio systems.

Climate control air conditioning is standard, with independent controls for the driver and front passenger.

Controls on the steering wheel allow adjustment of the audio, Bluetooth and multi-information display systems.

All models offer driver and passenger front, side, knee and front-to-rear curtain shield airbags. An Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA) is standard, as is Lexus’ Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system. VDIM effectively co-ordinates the braking package with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC) and the electronic power steering system for confident control during emergency manoeuvres.

The IS350’s parking assist system shows a clear image of the area behind the vehicle on the EMV screen, as well as lines indicating the vehicle’s anticipated course when reversing. Two front and four rear parking sensors warn of approaching obstacles.

An alarm system with intrusion sensors ensures the security of IS350, as does the engine immobiliser.

Lexus National Manager, Debbie Pattullo said, “While planning the IS350, we knew that it needed to look different from the IS250 — it needed to stand out from the existing car, in both performance and looks.

“By adding an exclusive body kit and wheel package, we were able to create something really special for the New Zealand IS350 driver. We’re thrilled with the finished product and have no doubt that the IS350 will be a very popular model.”

Parts sourced exclusively for this market are an aggressively styled front spoiler, side skirts, rear bumper spoiler, boot spoiler and 15-spoke 18″ alloy wheels.

The recommended retail price for the IS350 Limited is $101,900 while the F Sport is offered at $103,300.
