Lexus on ice

Lexus on ice

We see a lot of stories come across our news desk regarding cars on ice – usually, some high-performance model sliding across a lake in Sweden.

Lexus has taken a different direction on the ‘car on ice’ promotion, teaming up with a British ice sculpting company to put actual ice wheels and tyres on its NX SUV.

This involved laser-scanning the NX’s real wheels to recreate them in ice. The vehicle was then frozen for five days at -30 degrees C before rolling out under its own power.

Considering an NZ weights around 1900kg, that is a lot for a material normally found in drinks to carry.

Plus it i the only time we think blue under-car lighting is appropriate!

It has been a big year for Lexus and viral video stunts. In October, it revealed an origami car, and earlier in the year the company released one of the most convincing hoverboards yet.

Watch the origami car drive HERE, and the hoverboard HERE.
