Kiwis miss out on accent calibration for Sync 3

Ford’s new Sync 3 system has been calibrated to better understand the Australian accent – but the same courtesy is not being extended to New Zealand customers.

Ford New Zealand spokesperson Tom Clancy says New Zealand has not been given the same functionality but instead gets a generic English setup.

He emphasises though that this has not resulted in any issues or complaints here on what is effectively a significant step-up on Sync 2, encompassing a whole new system combining navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, phone and a graphical app platform called AppLink.

Ford took a customer-centric approach in developing Sync 3, drawing on 22,000 customer comments and suggestions from around the world plus insights gleaned from research clinics, market surveys and tech industry benchmarking.

Voice search results are also enhanced by a better understanding of how consumers refer to businesses and points of interest.

Clancy says the company will confirm details next month of which models will get Sync 3, and when.
