Kia Picanto three-door launched in Europe

Kia Picanto three-door launched in Europe

The five-door Kia Picanto was launched last month in NZ and now its sportier three-door sibling has just been revealed for the European market.

It’s identical in size with its five-door counterpart, but the three-door Picanto features new front doors, sports-styled bumpers, rear panels and glass aft of the A-pillar, along with a larger front grille that’s available with silver or red trim surrounds, twin exhaust tips and different alloy wheel designs.

Inside, the cabin of the three-door is almost identical to the five-door’s interior, except for the seats which have a sliding and tilting mechanism.

For the European market, the Picanto will be offered in four trim grades: 1, 1 Air, Halo and Equinox. Both Halo and Equinox are unique to the three-door bodystyle.

Standard features on all models include a trip computer, height-adjustable seat, a tilt-adjustable steering column, a RDS radio and CD player with MP3 compatibility, electronic stability control (ESC), anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and emergency brake assist system (BAS).

The higher spec models get voice-recognition Bluetooth connectivity, automatic lights, LED daytime running lamps rear and side skirting. The Equinox adds red upholstery, automatic air conditioning and a smart key with a start/stop button.

The Halo variant offers 14-inch alloy wheels, while the Equinox rides on 15-inch rims.

Power for the three-door is the same as the five-door range in Europe which includes a 50kW 1.0 litre three-cylinder petrol engine and a 62kW 1.25-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

Kia NZ hasn’t announced if the three-door Picanto will join the five-door in its current range.
