Joint effort lands Ram pick-ups

Big American Ram pick-ups are set to roll onto the market courtesy of a new venture put together by well-known industry identities Ryan Walkinshaw and Neville Crichton.

Car-based utes have given way to pick-ups here – and Ram is the epitome of the hardcore pick-up truck.

Recognising this, a handshake between Crichton, owner of Ateco Automotive, and Walkinshaw of Walkinshaw Automotive Group sealed a deal to start American Special Vehicles, selling right hand Rams in Australia and New Zealand.

“Our engineers and manufacturing teams have relished the challenge of designing hundreds of OE quality parts, and implementing a completely unique build process,” says Walkinshaw.

“The objective was very clear – produce a right hand drive RAM pick-up that meets the engineering standards, quality, and refinement of the left hand drive product.

“We have invested millions of dollars and tens of thousands of man-hours to ensure we met our objective – the RAM pick-ups engineered by American Special Vehicles set a new benchmark and I couldn’t be more excited. They are absolutely spot on.”

“I used to race touring cars with Ryan’s father, Tom Walkinshaw, who was legendary for his determination, success and attention to detail,” says Crichton. “This venture with Ryan and his Walkinshaw Automotive Group is going to produce some fantastic vehicles, their engineering is second to none.”

The pick-ups are going to be built to comply with Australian Design Rules and with full volume import approval.

The ASV-produced Rams will be the only importer covered by the approval, and will sell with a three-year, 100,000km warranty.

The model line-up, specification and pricing will be available soon, but interest can be registered at ramtrucks.com.au or ramtrucks.co.nz.
