Jeep tops German awards

Jeep – it seems – is as German as blue jeans and over-stuffed hot dogs.

Readers of leading German 4×4 and SUV magazine Off Road has named three models from Chrysler’s Jeep range as their top purchase choices in their respective categories.

Chosen from a massive 126 vehicles on sale in Germany, the Renegade – Jeep’s first foray into youth-focused sub-compact territory – impressively took close to 45% of the category’s total votes.

Wrangler claimed the off-road vehicle category, claiming 38% of the total vote and leading Chrysler PR departments around the world to proclaim the hardcore Wrangler still has a firm hand on the crown of most capable off-road vehicle in the world.

The Jeep for those who don’t mind venturing too far out their comfort zones – as long as there’s climate air and seat-back video screens – was named best luxury SUV.

The Off Road awards have run every year since 1982, and 2016 saw readers submit a total of 85,080 votes.
