Imperative that young drivers stick to licence conditions

young driverPolice in the Eastern District are reminding young drivers to stick to licence conditions for their own safety and that of road users after some incidents.

Over the weekend police stopped a 19-year-old learner driver in Napier for speeding. As he had passengers in the car he was in breach of his licence conditions and he was also processed for drink driving, resulting in a licence suspension of 28 days and an order to make a court appearance.

Eastern District road policing manager Matt Broderick says major contributors to serious and fatal crashes in the region are young drivers, alcohol and speed. “In this situation all three factors were present,” he says. “Any breach of licence conditions is a concern and can have tragic consequences.”
