Hyundai ix35 officially launched in NZ

Last week Hyundai officially launched its new ix35 compact crossover in NZ with an event near Taupo. As the replacement for the popular Tucson the ix35 arrives carrying high expectations and going by first impressions, it’s ready to deliver.

The European styling is sharp and purposeful and the interior is well appointed. Engine options include two petrol units and Hyundai’s excellent 2.0-litre R-series turbo diesel motor. The diesel offering will be the pick of the three and offers 135kW of power and an impressive 392Nm of torque which is good enough to shift the 1636kg ix35 at an express pace. All three engine options are matched to a 6-speed electronic auto transmission.

In terms of trim level there are two options available, standard and Elite. The Elite specified ix35 benefits from extra features like a rear view camera, leather interior, climate control air-con and a 6-disc stereo with sub-woofer.

When it comes to safety all variants in the ix35 range receive an Electronic Stability Programme, front, side and curtain airbags and Hillstart Assist Control.

Pricing for the iX35 starts at $39,990 for the base 2WD model and extends to $53,990 for the CRDi Elite version.

Hyundai has traveled very far in the past decade and is currently brimming with confidence after capturing an increased market share both here in NZ and internationally.

Globally, Hyundai recorded an 11.6 per cent increase in its 2009 sales, achieving growth in multiple markets across the world. 2009 saw Hyundai sell 3,106,762 units compared to 2,783,052 in 2008.

“Last year certainly was a tough year for the car market, but to see growth for Hyundai globally and here at home has been a big boost to the brand. What’s more, the results came on the back of a year that saw no fresh product launched until late in 2009 with the Santa Fe. 2010 will look even more promising with four new product launches starting with the highly anticipated ix35,” says Hyundai National Sales Manager, Tom Ruddenklau.
