Holden recall affects 3700 vehicles

Model year 2014 Holden Commodore and WN Caprice models built between February 7, 2013 and May 22, 2014 have once again been recalled, this time for faulty front seats.

The latest recall affects 3700 vehicles in New Zealand says Holden New Zealand corporate affairs manager Neil Waka.

Waka says the move is a precautionary one that stemmed from a single isolated report received from the Elizabeth assembly plant in Australia.

“There have been no reported accidents or injuries caused as a result of this condition,

“Customers will be contacted directly by Holden New Zealand, but if they have any concerns they may contact their dealer directly and book the car in for an inspection,” says Waka.

According to the Australian recalls.gov.au website: “The vehicles may have been built with an incomplete weld on the seat hook bracket assembly, for either front seat.”

If the weld is incomplete, under certain conditions such as a crash, the hook may separate from the seat track, increasing the risk of occupant injury.

Dealers have been instructed to inspect the welds and, if not correct, the seat base assembly will be replaced free-of-charge.

This is the fifth time in three months and for the third time in July that Holden Australia has recalled cars to a dealership.

Last month Holden Australia recalled 27,000 Commodores because the windscreen wipers may not work properly, and in May Holden Australia recalled more than 42,000 Commodores over a potential fault with the front seat-belts.
