GT-F Falcon auction benefits Aussie cancer charity

Two Ford Falcon GT-F sedans have sold at auction for AUD $393,700 — more than twice their regular selling price — with the proceeds going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Bidding for car number 001 and car number 500, of a batch of 500 vehicles for Australia; another 50 have been set aside for New Zealand, started on auction website eBay a week ago.

When the final bids came in at 8pm (AEST) on Sunday August 24, car 001 sold for AUD $157,600 while car 500 went under the hammer for AUD $236,100.

The FPV GT F 001, complete with Victorian registration GTF 001 and manual transmission, comes in Kinetic Blue with a matte black stripe package. It has been used by Ford as the “hero car” for the model’s launch program, with the vehicle featuring in video clips, social media campaigns and the road test program.

FPV GT F 500 is a brand new vehicle, planned with a manual transmission, but yet to be built, which will enable the winning bidder the opportunity to select their preferred vehicle colour and stripe combination.

Powered by a supercharged 5L DOHC all-aluminium V8 engine and producing a powerful 351 kW and 570 Nm of torque, the FPV GT F wears a “351” badge, recalling the 351 cubic-inch 5.8L V8 engine that became synonymous with success both on and off the race track with the Falcon GT of the late ‘60s and ‘70s.

Ford Australia decided to auction cars 001 and 500 to raise money for charity — the company has donated $1.2 million to the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation over the past 10 years. The public auction process also prevented internal bidding wars among dealers and customers.

Ford is fitting the Falcon GT’s supercharged V8 to the final edition of the regular Falcon range which is due in showrooms in November.
