Ford Ranger stays at the top

The Ford Ranger continues to outsell the Toyota Hilux in the light commercial category by a margin of more than 1000 vehicles, and it also remains the top-selling vehicle in New Zealand, ahead of the Toyota Corolla by 164 units.

Year to date the Ford Ranger remains the top-selling commercial vehicle model with 17% market share (6,213 vehicles) followed by the Hilux with 14% (5,204 vehicles) and the Holden Colorado with 9% market share (3,274 vehicles).

The Ford Ranger was the top model overall for the month of November with 690 vehicles followed by the Toyota Hilux with 683 vehicles and the Toyota Corolla with 652 vehicles.

Year to date the top selling models in order are the Ford Ranger (6,213 vehicles), the Toyota Corolla (6,049 Vehicles) and the Toyota Hilux (5,204 vehicles).

The Pick-up/chassis cab segment was the second strongest market segment with 22% for the month of November and 21% year to date.

New commercial vehicle registrations of 3,505 vehicles in November were up 392 vehicles (12.6%) compared to November 2014. Year to date registrations is up 2,079 units (6.1%).

Toyota was the commercial vehicle leader for the month of November with 26% market share (901 vehicles), followed by Ford with 22% (769 vehicles) and Holden with 8% market share (290 vehicles).

The Ford Ranger remained the monthly top-selling commercial vehicle model with 690 vehicles registered in November, followed by the Toyota Hilux with 683 vehicles and Holden Colorado with 269 vehicles.

“Registrations of new vehicles year to date is already the second highest for any year, eclipsing the previous second highest annual total of 123,247 registrations in 1984, and is only 3,363 registrations behind last’s record of 127,179 new vehicles,” says Motor Industry Association chief executive David Crawford.

“The total for 2015 will break through 130,000 units for the first time by some margin,” says Crawford.
