New Falcons Sprint away from dealerships in May

Two exclusive Ford Falcon XR6 and XR8 Sprint models will be available in New Zealand dealerships from May.

The 325kW Falcon XR6 Sprint with standard six-speed automatic transmission will retail from $66,340 while the 345kW XR8 Sprint will be available in a six-speed manual or automatic transmission from $74,900.

Ford Asia Pacific is allocating 150 units of the 1400 Falcon Sprint production run for New Zealand consumption.

There will be 50 XR6 Sprints and 100 XR8 Sprints for customers to purchase at local New Zealand dealerships. Each vehicle will receive a numbered build plate located on the engine.

Visually, the Sprint series will receive subtle exterior design cues, including 19-inch black wheels, upgraded Brembo brake package in gold, black headlamp bezels, a distinctive black rear deck spoiler and new front fog lamp surrounds.

The XR8 Sprint adds a Silhouette Black painted roof and black wing mirrors to differentiate further itself from the XR6 version.

Inside, the Falcon Sprint series receives a unique interior featuring Sprint seats in leather/lux suede, chromatic mirror, dual zone climate control with high-series audio, unique shifter assembly and surround and unique gauge cluster with “Sprint” logo.

The manual XR8 Sprint gains a “Sprint” labelled shift knob.

Fundamental to the Sprint development programme was designing and building a performance Falcon with the dynamic attributes expected by Falcon enthusiasts says, Ford Asia Pacific.

Both engines benefit from a transient over boost function that provides extra performance for up to 10 seconds if conditions allow, specifically intake air temperature under normal operation.

In the case of the XR6 Sprint, performance can lift from 325kW / 576Nm to an over boost of up to 370kW / 650Nm. In the XR8 Sprint, the transient over boost function briefly raises power and torque of up to 400kW and 650Nm.

In the XR6 Sprint, the Ford engineers have added a larger intercooler, sourced the turbo and injectors from the previous FPV F6, unique Sprint transmission calibration, new lower airbox, bespoke engine calibration and new larger air intake system.

In the XR6 Sprint, the automatic transmission calibration was revised to take advantage of the increased power and extended torque levels that are available with the revised turbocharged engine.

The automatic transmission in the XR8 Sprint uses the Falcon GT-F transmission calibration to ensure durable shift performance.

The Falcon product development specialists, who are part of the Ford Asia Pacific product development organisation based in Victoria lead the Sprint programme.
