The Jeep Cherokee line-up has been strengthened by the arrival of high specification Limited diesel variant, powered by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

It is priced from $66,990 plus on-road costs.

The 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine delivers 125 kW and 350 Nm and is equipped with stop/start technology. Jeep reports consumption of 5.8L/100km on the combined cycle for the Cherokee Limited diesel.

The Cherokee also utilises ‘active drive II’ which features a two-speed power transfer unit with torque management and low range, a feature unique to the diesel power-train.

Specification includes 18-inch aluminium wheels, leather upholstery with heated front seats, the U-connect 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation, front and rear parking sensors with reversing camera and an Alpine nine-speaker surround sound system.

Additional safety feature options for the Cherokee include new systems such as forward collision warning-plus, park/sense parallel/perpendicular park assist, adaptive cruise control-plus, lane departure warning-plus, blind spot monitoring and rear cross path detection.

The Jeep Cherokee has also gained an ANCAP five-star rating, and it has also earned the ‘best in class’ designation from Euro NCAP in the small off-road 4X4 category for the year 2013.

This vehicle is also the first mid-size SUV to feature rear axle disconnect, resulting in reduced friction and energy loss when 4×4 capability isn’t needed and ensuring improved fuel efficiency.

The Cherokee range in New Zealand now features five versions, starting with the 2.4-litre Cherokee Sport from $44,990. The Pentastar 3.2-litre, V6-poweredCherokee range starts with the Longitude from $54,990.
