Deputy principal wins Mazda2 at Auckland Zoo

Auckland Zoo and Mazda have announced the winner of the Meerkats in a Mazda2 competition, intermediate school deputy principal Wendy Naidu

Naidu texted in the correct number (432) of meerkat soft toys that were in the car, winning her a brand new Mazda2 GSX valued at more than $21,000.

“It sounds strange, but I had a feeling I was going to win it. I was at work when I got the call and even that day I was thinking about it,” says Naidu.

She is the deputy principal at Rangeview Intermediate School, in Te Atatu South, but her previous position was head of the maths department, which may be one of the reasons she is good with numbers.

Her family are also true Mazda supporters.

“This will be our 7th Mazda, and my Dad, who retired a few years ago, was the service manager for John Andrew Ford and Mazda in West Auckland. He had a good laugh when I told him I had won.”

Naiad’s husband Shanthan and two children, Anya (3) and Kyan (1) were equally impressed by the new car, and each of them received one of the 432 meerkat soft toys to take home.
