The government has updated its fleet of Crown VIP cars, which means 32 BMW 730Ld cars – a specification only sold new here to the government – are up for grabs.

The cars will be sold by Turners in coming weeks. The online tender started yesterday on Monday April 18.

Harley Spence, Manager of VIP Transport at the Department of Internal Affairs says the Ministerial vehicles have been used for people such as the Prime Minister and Ministers of the Crown, the Leader of the Opposition, visiting dignitaries including Heads of State, and the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

“We have previously used Turners as it ensures an open and transparent sales process; we expect higher buyer interest, and importantly, value for the taxpayer by gaining the best return,” Spence says.

The option chosen complies with the Department’s Asset Disposal policy and a usual probity requirement, says Spence.

The new fleet of VIP vehicles have been progressively introduced since December following a tender independently by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment All of Government Vehicles procurement process.

Details on the cars can be found at turners.co.nz/BMW.

Turners says the resale on that first batch of BMWs proved to be very strong when they were sold by Turners in 2011.
