City of London reveals replacement double-decker bus (+video)

Wrightbus from Northern Ireland has officially won the contract to build London’s next double-decker bus and images have been released to show what it will look like. This rendering of the new Routemaster comes from the winning entry in the design contest, drawn up by Capoco Design. The drawing was passed on to Wrightbus who prepared it for actual use on the streets of London.

It’s roughly ten feet longer than the old Routemaster but actually seats two fewer passengers. But those 62 people will enter and exit the bus easier with three different points of entry. The new bus will also boast two staircases inside and extensive use of glass aims to keep the big bus light and looking slim.

London Mayor Boris Johnson gave the new Routemaster his blessing and it will be showing up on London roads from 2012.

Check out a walk-around video of the bus below.
